Hi so I’m from MA but I haven’t received any letter yet. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m worried it means that I didn’t get in, but my agora portal has the new tabs for enrollment fee and financial aid. Does BC send all their letters at the same time?

BC International Studies major is good one? Who can tell me? D got accepted in A&S but does not know which one has high reputation in A&S. Please help me find out. We are living in a very, very small rural town.

When I told my co-worker about BC, they ask me: Why she goes to Boston? Community college. Ah?!

Thanks a lot

I have the tabs…but haven’t gotten acceptance letter >.<

Boston College’s international studies major is considered very strong in part because it is application only. Students apply in the fall of their sophomore years, and are admitted prior to their sophomore spring. Only about 35 students used to be admitted, but I believe current numbers are closer to 80-90 (per year). Recent faculty hires in political science will improve the program even further. It is interdisciplinary, and students concentrate in either political science, economics, or history, culture and society. The latter concentration is then broken down into global cultural studies or international ethics and social justice.

congrats boston111, i felt so bad for you that you still hadnt received your letter (living soooo close to BC)! i’m sure the tab means you’re in! :)

Thanks HannahBee1!!! I hope you’re right…I’ve been freaking out!! My teachers have been worried. haha I made my bf go check the mail for me while I was at school DX haha. I hope that the tabs mean I’m in, hope it’s not just an accident! We’ll see though…

I loveee BC. My mom went there for grad school, (got her MBA), and I was there for her graduation. Spent the better part of my childhood on the campus! :)

Dear Eagle, thanks a lot.

Does International Studies have honor program? What about the job market? After BS degree, what kind of future career would be? Whether this program is easy get a job in East region? This question sounds a little silly. However, this is one mother’s worry. How about Accounting major. Does it stronger than International Studies? Can she gets double majors?

I just called D during lunch break, she was screaming with food in the mouth. I am not sure she cried or not.

Good luck to everybody in your future college.

@Cornellmom:
International Studies does not have an honors program in part I think because you have to be selected to get into the major. However, the fact that it does not have an honors program may be something your daughter might want to consider. In other words, should she fall in the top 15-20 majors in Political Science or Economics, perhaps she would like to be a Political Science or Economics major in that department’s honors program and minor in IS. If she wants, she can always apply to Int. Studies, keep both majors if she gets into IS, and then drop International Studies should she be admitted to a departmental honors program or should she find that the International Studies major is not exactly what she was looking for. You are not bound to any major, but of course, at some point a decision needs to be made.

A lot of International Studies majors seek careers in the State Department or in international service organizations, such as the Peace Corps. This of course depends on the concentration. I have heard that econ concentrators have done well in getting jobs that more to do with finance. I believe she would have to be in CSOM to be an accounting major. Transferring into CSOM, I have heard, is much harder than transferring into other schools, but I do not know the specifics on that. Double majors, as I said, are allowed, but that decision should be made in consultation with her adviser. It is not always the best choice for every student.

Generally, Boston College has a very good reputation on the East Coast. If the job market is a concern, she should try to meet with Professor Nakazato at Boston College on her visit day. He has been administering the program for some time, and he keeps close tabs on graduates.

One indicator of how much BC is respected is its success in nationally competitive fellowships: [Home - University Fellowships Committee - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/offices/ufel/)

Top producers of Fulbrights: [Table: Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2010-11 - Global - The Chronicle of Higher Education](<a href=“Table: Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2010-11”>Table: Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2010-11)

You should note that most if not all of BC’s winners are undergraduates. Some of the universities listed here have winners that are graduate students.

Does anyone have any idea if it is possible to go to grad school for engineering after undergrad at BC?

Or, also, I heard a rumor that BC has an “engineering” track of some sort… could anyone offer more insight into this?? Thanks!!
