Class of 2012 Early Decision

As we all wait (im)patiently for December 13th/14th/15th/whenever, I thought we could pass the time by introducing ourselves and getting to know our potential classmates. After decisions come out, we can announce them here, celebrating and (hopefully not) commiserating with each other. So, I'll start:

Feel free to add additional details that I may have forgotten to ask about. I didn't want to get into more specific numbers (SAT IIs, GPA, etc.) because I really want to focus on getting to know the PEOPLE, not the numbers, but if you all want to add them, please do.

I want in!

oh my gosh so many legacies!! ahh this is making me feel so nervous and like...disadvantaged :-</p>

You've got the female engineering thing, though... that should help!

I must say, I'm really blown away by everyone's stats!

yeah, i am also surprised about all of the legacies as well!

just wondering, who here had an alumnus interview?

I did not. Wish I started my apps a bit earlier...

I think the # of legacy applicants really speaks to how much alumni love Duke. It reflects well on the school, in my opinion.

Oh, and I had an interview.

I had an interview, too.

what kind of questions did they ask?

She asked me a lot about my interests and things that I want to pursue in college and about things I do in my spare time. We also just had a lot of casual conversation about things going on in the county i live in (I'm interested in civil engineering and our school is being rebuilt and is a "green" school) so things along those lines.

Yeah, the questions my interviewer asked me were pretty generic. The very first question he asked was "What made you apply to Duke?" and I heard it as "What major did you apply for to Duke?" so I blurted out my major, and there was this awkward silence, and he looked at me really weird for a few seconds before saying "So I guess that program must be good at Duke..." I realized what he had really asked and I was able to play it off... I guess I'm just lucky that majors can double as reasons for wanting to go to a school!

I had an interview. It lasted pretty long...close to 2 hours...so I think it went pretty well.

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
State: CT
Trinity/Pratt: Trinity
SAT: 1500/2300
ACT: didn't take
Rank: School doesn't rank.
Hooks, if any: Legacy, if that counts. Student Body President?
Why Duke?: Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy! Well, other than that a lot of little stuff. Had a really strong gut reaction to a poli sci class, etc.

Im a little nervous. You guys sound very qualified. Its worth noting that people on here are usually more qualified than the general ED applicant pool...10/12 got in ED last year that were on the roster.
