Class of 2012 - Early Decision

I certainly agree the stats can never truly show the student, but if it gives anyone a better idea about applying I got in ED I with these stats:

SAT I- 800 critical reading, 750 math & writing
SAT II- 770 U.S. Hist., 780 Math I & Literature
GPA- 3.4 unweighted
Rank- 123/421
Public School
Few extra curriculars (Guitar/volunteering)
Good essay I suppose

Rambleon, your stats give me hope! I'm applying to Reed EDII, and have written some amazing essays, have incredible recs, a few focused and dedicated ECs which I'm passionate about, but...A low GPA. Around 3.3 or 3.4, somewhere in that range...

Congrats!

congrats everyone on the acceptances! I'm applying to Reed RD. lol
crosses fingers

ACT 29
GPA 3.80
Rank no idea
Race Asian
international school
american citizen living overseas
IB diploma candidate
EC sports... I know this probably does not fit the reed mold, but yeah on my EC I only listed sports. I was worried I won't get in because of this. but I guess I truly showed that I am a reedie inside thru my essay
visited and interview on-campus at Reed (went all the way across the Pacific ocean to do this)
recommendation I suppose they were well since I got accepted :)

congratulations
I know you will love Portland
:D

Thanks for the stats, guys! I feel good about applying.

I have an odd situation with Reed... I was just deferred EA from UChicago. Since I first made my list back in September, Reed has been one of my top three (UChicago, Swarthmore, and Reed). However, I live on the East Coast, and my parents aren't thrilled about my interest in Reed. If I get into some good schools closer to home, my parents will definitely push me to choose one of those schools, although I think I could, with my brother's help, convince them to let me go, although it would be very straining. Recently Reed has become my favorite again... well, sometimes tied with UChicago, but I love them both so much. Sometimes I think, "How would I ever choose between them?" And then I think, "Wait a minute, having to choose between them would be the best-case scenario!"

Anyway, I'm going to put a LOT of time into my Why Reed essay, as it seems that Reed puts a lot of weight on that, and Reed is also one of the few schools that I can really honestly write passionately about in my essay. I just need to find a way to get all this stuff into words.

Again, congratulations to everyone who got in! Maybe I'll see you next fall!

hey, has anyone of you sent in the deposit and enrollment form yet? I hear from the admission office that reed will be closed from December 22 through January 2. So should I wait until Jan 2, or go ahead and send them now?

Hey, I m delighted to find so many reedies here. Congratulations!
And I have become one too.
My stats first:
SAT: CR 790 M 750 W 670
Rank 2/77
GPA No idea; my school doesn't give GPA
Pretty good ECA
My essays were good but i not so goood writer.
Int'l student; country Nepal
I dunno how I am going to send the 300 dollars deposit. If any one has any idea. Help me?

Send an email to admissions; they are happy to answer all such questions (but maybe not until Jan 2).

can you guys tell me what you like about reed? i visited, but it just really didn't click for me. i am trying to decide whether i should keep it on my list or not.

My Reedie says, "If you have read all the materials, and you have visited, and you're still not sure why you would want to go to Reed, then maybe Reed isn't a good choice for you."

Reedies usually have an immediate and strong affinity for the school. If you didn't feel that, then like he said, maybe it's not a good fit for you; if so, probably not keep it on your list.

carolyn, I remember talking a bit to you! I'm really glad for your son! :)

Thanks Spitfire. My son is thrilled and still is still talking about how happy is he nearly three weeks after he got the news. My son is not the gushing type, so it is great to see him so excited. Reed was the nirvana of colleges for my son from the moment he set foot on campus. Looking back, I think he was actually a Reedie from the moment he was born. :)

It is refreshing to see so many platitudes.
