<p>i am a fanatic AZZURI and Francesco Totti fan/supporter but i cannot see them as european champs from yesterdays’s performance. </p>
<p>But, still history tells us that italy has the habit of brushing aside any adversity and they play their best football when they need it the most. So, i feel If italy can somehow squeeze to the knockouts i am sure they will win.</p>

i don’t want to start an argument here, but no team would interrupt the game in such a situation.
especially not for a team like italy which is notorious for having players that like to dive and exaggerate their injuries quite often…
so that explains the fairplay factor…and actually the rules are pretty clear on this: even if panucci was behind the field, he put van nistelrooy onside.
and i think italy would have lost even if the linesman had said that it was offside. their defense just sucks without cannavaro</p>
<p>i still think that NL and Italy are the best teams in this (killer) group and I’m almost positive that italy will beat france and romania and survive the first round..after this, everything is possible! especially with the intense support that the italians can expect from the many italian immigrants in switzerland and austria who will do a lot of things to get tickets and support their team in the stadium.</p>

Well, I admire your loyalty and love for the Azzuri, but still your comments that Panucci was inactive… that goal was offside and finally, questioning the morality of the Dutch is, I feel, a bit immature… Firslty, if you had watched the post match show in Supersports after Spain Vs Russia Game.. There was an announcement made by Fifa that Nister-roy’s goal was infact valid according to “11.something” point in the fifa rule book or similar book.. The main point is that the goal is 100% valid ..Fifa says so.. Secondly, you claim that the game should have stopped after Pannuci was injured while Mister. Roy scored the goal… But, do you think that the Italians would have stopped the game in the name of fair play if they were in a similar situation… I highly doubt that… Moreover, why didn’t the Refree stop the game if this incident was not fair, as you claim? It’s his job to make sure of that… all in all, the Dutch were far better team that day and they deserve every iota of that victory.. As for the Italians, I feel they will get out of this group but I can’t see them winning this tournament.. Influential players like Totti n nesta r retired ..Cannavoro is injured .. The midfield duo of Gattuso and Pirlo are just not performing which was also evident in their performance for AC Milan this season.. Also, Marcello Lippi, their influential coach, has left the squad in the hands of somewhat inexperienced Donadoni ( with due respect)..All in all, this Italian team is just not the team that won the World Cup.. . Let’s see what happens…</p>
