Class of 2012 RD Thread & Profile

Ah, well the vomiting thing makes sense; that would be pretty distracting. It is true that math II is required though. Also Caltech is really score-centered, or so it seems, and why wouldn't you have retaken SATs if you could have done better? That's why it could be a joke. But anyway, not up to me to say - if it's true, congrats! And anyway, being the author of a best-selling book is pretty amazing.

eagle86, I am happy for you, of course! You must be one classy writer to get a best seller and congrats again. However, one question remains: I absolutely can't believe that caltech accpeted you with those math scores. The real problem is not to get into Caltech, but how to survive it. With those math scores, it is really doubtful (no offense to you whatsoever intended, and my apologies if it sounds that way). Here is the reason why Caltech cannot be accpeting students with low math scores - if they do, then it is the same as setting the student up, and setting him up real good.
With your writing ability, why don't you consider Ivies such as Harvard, Cornell, etc? They are really good in liberal arts education, and that is definitely your strong point.
I still think you were making a joke......If you wrote that in Cornell thread, or even Stanford one, I can belileve you.
Anyway, good luck to you!

Yea, eagle86, even if you got accepted, you should 90% not go... everything at Caltech relies on you being one of the best in the country at math (C.S. physics, chem, engineering all take their fundamentals from math), so I don't think you would survive the classes.

And I know that math SAT doesn't tell all of math skills, but if you struggle that much on a standardized test, math isn't really your area. It is possible you had a massive skrewup on SAT I, but your SAT II score says the same thing. And I am positive that Math II is required for the application. (are you sure you didn't actually take the Math II?)

So like T.A.D. said, congrats on getting in at Caltech, but succeeding is the problem on the bigger scope.

So, you're bad at standardized tests but you got 800 on everything but Math? Either you're full of it or there is some huge extenuating circumstance that you're not mentioning. BTW Caltech does not practice affirmative action... so I don't think you were accepted for "diversity".

It's a troll. Isn't it a funny coincidence how every single math test score sucks? We have no legacy, no affirmative action, and athletics are next to meaningless. Seriously people.

You guys are missing the most obvious lie...
What is the most noteworthy fact about Christopher Paolini, the author of
Eragon? He was 19 when his book was published and became a best seller. This guy claims to have written a NYT best selling book two years ago? in high school? wouldnt that be one of those things that identifes him?

Certainly, this accomplishment, if real, is very impressive. Yet it will not at all help the OP in Ma 1abc and later in Ma 2ab. There are many good linguistics school out there, much better than Caltech, and AdCom would definitely know it. It's just that those Math SAT's and AP's along with "ACCEPTED" looks really really fishy.
