If you can score well, take them. If you’re not too confident that your scores will bolster your application, save the money and spend it elsewhere.

Will it hurt me if I take it and do bad?

Determined,

I don’t think it should hurt you too badly if you would end up scoring poorly on the subject tests. You should check each individual college though and see their score submission policies. I know some schools have a policy in which you must submit all test scores but I am not sure whether that means all SAT I scores ONLY or both SAT I and II scores, so that is something to look into.

If it is not a policy that you have to submit all scores, then the colleges will only see what you send them, and therefore I cannot imagine that scoring poorly would affect your chances of admission.

I am really ***ed of at collegeboard! This was my first time signing up for one of their tests online and I knew today was the deadline for the May test. Well I was out all day and I was like okay I still have tonight to do it. Well I come home and I’m about to sign-up for the tests then I realized the deadline passed. I was like ! Its just 9 p.m. (I live in CA) and then I noticed that their deadline is 11:59 p.m. EDT! Meaning that I will have to probably pay $75(I believe) instead of the $51. Sorry totally off topic.

Determined24- you probably want to take them if you really want to end up at UCLA. You can take them and see how you do. If you do well on them, you should send them. It doesnt hurt to take them. Remember when they say “highly recommended” it basically means take them.

you best hope that you signed up to take all those AP exams. No offense or anything but if you take such rigorous sounding classes and score so poorly on the SAT it’s going to make your schooling look like a joke, except if you have AP scores. Granted everyone can say they’re bad test takers and they didn’t study that’s just an excuse. Anyone can really score at least an 1850 without any preparation

So, ep1994, you waited until what you knew was the last day, and then what you thought was the last hour to register? And you’re angry at the CB because…

I recommend taking the subject tests…although u arent required to take them, a lot of applicants will have taken them to look more competitive…especially at higher schools like UCLA

BigIs- well yeah I know you are right. I was mad at that moment. Its my fault for waiting to the last minute. I sure learned my lesson, well hopefully…

Just because its now optional to take SAT II for UC’s doesnt mean that they arent valuable. These test are what will show colleges your potential in specific areas of study. Taking these test will give you the edge for applications to the competitive schools.
