Is anyone doing the "optional essay" on the app? I don't have any hardships or anything, so I'm not sure if that's the only thing that's supposed to go in that section...

Well, it's only a paragraph. Not really an essay.

Don't do short answer #4 unless you really have important and relative information to add that is not already in your application. They don't want something trivial or a repeat.

HEY!
Do any of you guys know anything about the health promotion adn disease prevention program? Like if it an impacted major. Thanks -wf909

About that question 4: I wanted to use that space to explain a drop in my grades and a subsequent recovery. I guess that will cause some raised eyebrows, and it's nowhere explained in my app. What do you think?

If it really is a good reason, go for it. I'd ask a counselor or someone to take a look to make sure it does not sound whiny or too much like a "victim." But that would be the place to do that if you do it right. Good luck.

Hello all! My name is Brandon and I currently live in Memphis, TN. USC is my number 1 choice! My goal is to double major in B.A. Theatre and Cinema Arts Critical Studies. I have to send off all of my applications Friday so that's a little nerve wracking. In all I have 6 letters of reccomendation, 3 essays, A personal statement, and short answers. Whew... Well, I just wanted to say hello!

welcome to the thread Winfrey/ Brandon

Hi, I'm a low-income URM from New York City who plans on applying for scholarship consideration. Are these scores strong enough?

SAT I: 1960 (CR700, M570, V690 E11)
SAT II: US History (700), Literature (680)

I took the Dec SAT, and I expect a 2000+ and a higher math score. My EC's, essay, and recommendation letters are great, but my GPA is a little shaky due to medical reasons (3.1). Do I have a chance at admission, let alone scholarships? I've taken the most rigorous courseload my school offers and I've taken several college courses.

Also, will they see Dec. SAT scores?

Yes, they will see December scores. I expected a 2000 the first time, but I got an 1850. =/ Haven't been able to score higher.

Cool, cool.

I'd have to say USC in my top 3 schools. The other two being Berkeley and NYU. If I got into at least two of them, I'd be overjoyed :)

I think the only schools I'd rather go to than USC is Columbia or Stanford. ^_^ I'm applying to NYU too, but after USC. I would rather go to USC because the financial aid is better and I actually know USC rather well. I haven't visited NYU yet.

Seriously, the areas surrounding NYU are awesome. You have the Village, and then south you have the trendy SoHo (represent) and Chinatown. Honestly, it's beautiful, but that's just my personal aesthetic haha.

Heh...i actually have the exact opinion than you. I had really high expectations for NYU but I was VERY dissapointed when I visited. I guess I need more traditional campuses.

I'm waiting for the freaking UMich decision...it's been two months!! Then I have UCLA, USC, and NYU to apply if I do get in UMich.

I do move traditional campuses more... But I thought the USC campus was great. ^_^ I just loved it there.

me too...i'd much rather prefer USC's campus than NYU's...the only other uni i'd be happy to go to other than USC would be UMich.

I don't know, for me, the idea of being immersed in the city like you are on the campus of NYU was incredibly appealing...but only because it IS New York City. For LA, I much prefer USC's style. I'm really going back and forth every day now which school I actually prefer.

For those of you who visited NYU, what was the campus like? Was it like...in the middle of the city with the buildings all spread out? That's the impression I'm getting.

Well....I really didn't like NYU that much. They brag about how Washington Square is their quad, but I don't see the big deal about that. WS is so dirty and it smelled horrible. It's nothing compared to USC, UCLA, or hell, even my school. The food was so expensive, and the area on Broadway looked kinda run down from the outside. The insides though are very nice. I really liked their library, Tisch building, and Kimmel Center. The I went into my friend's dorms and they are nothing to be excited about. The nightlife though is definitely unbeatable. There are so many places around that you can just go chill and have fun although the clubbing scene didn't live up to my expectations. If I had to choose I would definitely choose USC over NYU.

Well, I'm already picking USC over NYU. xD I was just wondering what the campus was like.
