Yeah, but I’m technically a URM, have great stats and EC’s, but know that I can’t really consider any Ivies to be a target. At that level, it’s really hard to know whether or not they’ll accept you

@marinebiosax
Ha I know its somewhat incongruous with the rest of the list. But my parents are pushing it, and since I’m in-state and with my stats I’m pretty sure UTK would end up paying me like $5000/year to go there

@born2dance94: How are you technically a URM? What’s your ethnicity?

And some people just have a lot of…confidence. Haha. Ivies aren’t a “target” for anyone, imo, but some have a better chance than others.

@elizaruns: Ohh okay. My friends want me to apply to UT Chatt, but the only in-state school I really like is Vanderbilt lol. :)

I don’t feel like it’s really realistic for anyone to consider HYPS as a target, considering that the acceptance rates for even 2400 SATs are around 20%. But if you’re well enough qualified to consider those schools likely to accept you, then kudos because I’m not lol
@Marinebiosax
Yea I feel you on that, I know tons of ppl applying to chatt. And I like Vandy, everybody always talks about the stuck-up vibe though, which bothers me a bit

Haha one girl in my school keeps spouting off these ridiculous statistics that she’s got a 70% in at Brown because her mother went there, and that she’s bound to get into their super-duper-selective 6 yr medical program. LOLZ, her grades are like mostly As, a few B+s

@MarinebioSax I’m partially Hispanic by ethnicity. I never grew up with that background, but when I started learning Spanish 5 years ago in school, I fell in love with the culture and am always trying to learn more about any/all Hispanic countries/cultures so even though most would say I’m white because ethnically I’m more white than Hispanic, I ended up knowing a lot/appreciating the culture of it as well, so I’m thinking of checking the box for Hispanic, but I don’t know yet.

@born2dance94: Ohh well I’m part Dominican but I’m fluent in Spanish lol. If you’re part, then check the box. -shrug-
And tell that girl that just because she’s a legacy doesn’t automatically mean her chances are that high. Entitlement isn’t cute lol.

@elizaruns: A lot of schools, including the Ivy League, have the ‘stuck-up’ vibe. That should never discourage you from applying! When I visited last spring, I didn’t get a stuck-up vibe.

@jollybjolly

I actually also might consider Brown; the rest of my list had Princeton and Cornell as possibilities. I’m mostly looking for strong math/physics/CS programs, and the other Ivies (besides Harvard, which I don’t really know much about) don’t have those.

@everyone: Could someone point out some possible disadvantages of applying EA? I might do that for MIT and UChicago (and maybe Caltech if I decide to apply there), but I don’t know if I should wait for first semester grades to help my app…

I’m pretty sure I’m doing Smith ED. I’m not totally sure where else I’ll apply if that doesn’t work out (though hopefully it will; I think I have a pretty good shot), but right now my RD list includes Barnard, Amherst, Middlebury, Mount Holyoke, and Yale.

@energize: The only real disadvantage I can think of is they won’t see your 1st semester senior grades.
And maybe the fact that you’ll have less time to prepare your essays? I have no clue lol.

I’m doing Barnard ED, but other than that, I really don’t know. I’d like to apply to some EA schools too, but I don’t know which ones are EA vs. ED. Anyone help?

My List:

I have other match schools too but I’m too lazy to type them up…

wow…you must be smart haha. Is it true that girls have a better chance at MIT? Maybe I’l apply!

It’s not true. Well slightly. Less females apply to MIT than males, but they still only admit ~800 for each (so 1600 total.)

They won’t admit a girl over a guy, but since the female pool is smaller, girls “technically” have it “easier.”

And now I found out I can apply ED and EA, here’s my final list I promise
