I just spent some more time looking online at the dates for the music scholarship admissions information and on the last page of one of the PDFs it says that on February 1, "Audition results are mailed to all CD applicants." That is certainly good news :-)

Audition results only tell you if you are invited to campus for the second round of auditions (March 7-8). The money results are sent out on March 23.

As far as I know, acceptance letters for EA applicants are sent February 15. I assume that there must be contact between the music admissions people and the general admissions people, but I have no evidence to back this up. It would be great if both letters came in the same envelope :-)

I have no idea about the chances of getting into the orchestra if you receive a scholarship. It seems logical that you would get into an orchestra if awarded a scholarship, but I guess it just depends on the talent pool of all of the students. I doubt they give guarantees, and since they award 90 scholarships per year, there may not be room in the highest orhcestra or band for all of the scholarship winnders, but your chances are probably significantly higher.

My understanding is you will be admitted to the music dept via the cd. You are invited to the first weekend in March if they consider your cd audition good enough to try for a scholarship.

Agony of Admissions was written in regards to last year's class, although it would make sense the admissions pool is continuing to grow. I thought the article was vague though as it seemed as though the RD would hear at the same time as the EA... which makes no sense.

I suppose St.Olaf doesn't send out early admits...

Haha, when I was interviewing there I was telling the adcom how much I love music and he told me to be sure to apply for the music scholarship...I almost laughed in his face. I love to LISTEN to music and I play the flute well by my school's standards, but certainly not good enough to get money from college for it.

Just thought I'd mention to those of you waiting for Feb 15.... Last year they mailed the ED decisions 2/15, had to wait a few days for it to actually get here! I was biting my nails, don't even know if my son noticed. I never asked him if there was anything he could see online (he certainly didn't mention it to me if there was....) He is now an Ole, and quite happy there.

My son just got a largish mustard colored St. O envelope in the mail today--not thick, but not thin. We live way east of the Ohio River, but I have not seen notes of anyone else closer by, Twin Cities?, getting something like this. Anyone else? He is not home from school yet. I am surprised to see something that looks "interesting," this early. Probably a false alarm.......

Yay!! As I suspected from peeking here, the mustard envelope was an acceptance at St.Olaf! (I can't log on on my Mac, and my son was bogarting his computer all last night, so no post until today, sorry!) He has also been selected as a Buntrock finalist, though he made a few noises about how far it is (from New England? That's what planes are for! No-brainer!) First acceptance in our household, so that is nice. Music is not his field--one less person in the running for that one! Congratulations, CurrySpice!

By the looks of it, they sent decisions to those that have to travel to MN. Maybe the rest of us will have to wait until the 15th....2 more weeks is SUCH a long time!

Good luck to everyone applying at St. Olaf!

My son is a freshman, and loves it! We are all the way from the Pacific NW to find St. Olaf: great academics, friendly students, an open rather than hostile attitude to faith (but not mandated faith, either), personal interest from profs, and a campus culture which is not booze-fuelled.

With one semester's experience, we're glad to hear back that the residence life at St. O is very active and friendly. My son can only come home for the long breaks, so we are very glad to learn from him that practially everyone stays on campus for the weeekends.

My son is not a musician, which seems to be just fine on campus. Also, he has a great attitude about the weather (remember a quarter inch of snow is a wonder here). It seems that no one treats the cold as a big deal, and the nonchalance is contagious. There is also a wonderful athletic center for for when it's too cold to want to be outdoors.

We're sold: I guess our whole family are Oles now!

EA decisions are supposed to be sent out on 2-15 (I thought I read). I think I saw a poster who recvd decisions before that date. Maybe the website really means decisions are made *BY * 2-15, I guess.

Can we assume that EA apps will not be in limbo BEYOND 2-15?

from olaf's website...

What is Early Action?
Early Action is a way for students to get the admissions process underway earlier in the academic year. The application deadline is December 1, and we'll send you a decision on February 15.

looks like they liked your buddy. congrats to him. out of curiousity, do you know if olaf is his 1st choice, or is he waiting for what the final cost will?

My son got a Financial aid booklet a few days ago and a letter, but no acceptance, yet. I called the fin aid office and asked if we can assume he got accepted, and she said no EA acceptances have been mailed out. Reading the posts, I can assume that there have been packets mailed out to those who qualify for the competitive scholarship that they have to interview for and they are just giving them extra time to arrange travel.

I asked the fin aid office if then we should wait to fill out FAFSA until we get a letter of acceptance or rejection and she said to go ahead and fill it out. I don't know if that means he is accepted and they are just sending these out ahead of time, or maybe he will be wait-listed. Time will tell.

Thanks, nomoresnow, for calling financial aid and posting what you learned. My son received the financial aid booklet and letter as well, and I was wondering the same thing as the letter really sounded pretty positive in its wording, but who knows...? At least we now know that EA decisions probably will be sent out on the 15th.

D recvd that booklet too. That is why I asked the question in another post whether filling out the ACTUAL fafsa/css was necessary for them to render a decision.
