im new to this whole website thing, but i jsut got accepted!! i am so happy because vanderbilt is my dream school. i hope to hear from fellow commodores!! good luck and congrats

accepted! unbelievable.

i just got my letter today! ACCEPTED!!!! ahhhh sooooo excited its unreal!!

I had very average stats (2050 SAT 3.4 GPA UW) and was accepted. This proves that Vandy truly takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications. They see a person behind each app as opposed to only seeing a bunch of numbers.

I was extremely involved in my school and especially the debate team (which competes nationally and was the top team in the country in 2006). I focused my essays on debate and how much it has meant to me throughout high school, which is what I think got me in.

I had no hook, other than the fact that I was applying from Washington DC, which should give hope to other applicants who don't have 2200+ on their SATS and a 4.0 GPA.

Wow, congrats Nyknicks889! You giveme much hope. I have very similar stats as you do...and debate to you is webdesign to me. I have a post on this forum, its about 8 threads below this one, can you chance me? I hope I have a shot now. Congrats once again!

i was wondering if there were any more midwesterners accepted?!

In response to Commodore64-

I go to arguably the best private school in Washington DC (100 percent graduates, sends almost everyone to top schools), so my GPA isn't all that bad. Additionally, Vanderbilt considers your school's profile as much as it does your GPA.

Because I don't know too much about your school, its difficult to say whether or not you have a decent chance. Your SATs are right in their 25-75 percent range, but they don't particularly stand out (neither did mine).

That being said, I think you have a shot as long as you put effort and passion into your essays. I honestly feel like Vandy wants to know who you are as a person and what you'll contribute to the school beyond your grades and test scores, and the essay is the only place where an applicant can show that. A supplemental rec or two can't hurt (although don't go overboard). I had one from my debate coach.

Also, its easier to get into Vandy from the North, so that may or may not be of help to you. Good luck!

Thanks, Nyknicks. My counselor told me she was very proud of the rec she wrote for me. I don't really think I'll be sending in supplemental recs, apart from the 3 that my teachers/counselor have already sent.

Does being from the southwest help me in any way?

Just go for it, don't worry about your chances, because when it is all said and done it is just talk, no one is going to be able to tell you anything besides the fact that you have a shot, not great chances but not horrible either, if you like the school, apply and wait, and life will do the rest for you.

i was wondering for those of you who got accepted...when do we get like packets and stuff about housing and things..not til april like everyone else or sooner?

I really don't think this is true anymore. There seems to be tons of kids here from New York/New Jersey. The secret is out.

They say they don't factor geography but I think it might be a small tip if you are from a state like Alaska, North Dakota, Wyoming or another state that struggles sending kids to elite schools.

vandy,
Things change every year. For example, when my D was admitted ED in fall of '04, her financial aid info came separate from her acceptance letter. According to posts in this thread, these things came together this year. However, in past years, the ED admits have received the same large Priority Mail envelopes when the RD decisions go out with information on setting up e-mail accounts, applying for housing, etc. I suspect it will be the same this year as well, particularly because of the transition of freshman housing moving to Peabody. If you review past issues of The Hustler, you'll see that many sophomores aren't too happy about living in traditional freshman housing two years in a row. Your class is indeed the lucky one!

2vu0609,

I'm a current Freshmen and I don't think that many of us really care we will be living in freshmen housing two years in a row. Of course some people will be unhappy but branscomb is extremely central. basically we will rank our choices of branscomb, kissam, vandy/barnard, towers in preference. But I personally love having a munchie part and starbucks right in my building. Peabody housing doesn't exactly have the proximity to everything like Branscomb does.
