To all with auditions in the next few days: Break a Leg!

We are checked into our hotel at the beach. Yes, we could have stayed in Conway, but with the beach so close, I just heard it calling my name! AustinMTmom, we will look for your D. I was highly jealous to hear about Ben Vereen’s visit last weekend. We have never seen Pippin and are looking forward to the show. My D is in her interview mood, which is a mix of highs and extreme crankiness. We’re all excited for our visit!

No callback for my S from DePaul, but I gotta say it was a great experience and we had fun. Out of around 30 kids, they called back seven (and of those, they said they will apparently accept maybe two?). Very kind people and the studio was a wonderful place to see. Good luck to everyone else this weekend! We have one more (James Madison, next weekend) and then that’s it.

Times3—sorry about the lack of callback for your son; been there. My daughter’s DePaul audition is next Thursday, the last of her 8 auditions, starts at 8:00 AM…lasts until???

We are back in the room for a bit before returning to Coastal. The day was run beautifully! My daughter was the only techie and received a lot of attention from the professors. We had no intention of liking it as much as we do. They are so welcoming and kind! The current students were just wonderful. We left with the feeling that this a very nuturing school, zWe’re very excited to return this evening to see Pippin. Back later with more.

We had the Ithaca audition at NOLA studios today on 54th street, NYC. They only auditioned 8 for acting in the afternoon session does anyone know how many they do in each off the dates on campus? My D thought it went very well and it was nicer than we expected for an off-campus location. Thought it would be awful actually lol. Hope all went well for everyone else this weekend, in NY and elsewhere!

ActingDad - I’m posting this here because I think there might be a bigger chance you’ll see it and it may be the least inappropriate thread.
I don’t have enough posts to reply to your PM, but my real name doesn’t actually have anything to do with my username on here (which comes from a very inside joke) and I am not from Guatemala. Although now I’m kind of wishing I was, because it would have been SO much more interesting that way.

Everybody else - Sorry about that; please ignore me and carry on with your wonderfulness.

Florencyey – thanks for the response. Good luck with your journey!

To anyone trying to make sense of this, my mother’s brother married late and married a women from Guatemala and moved there. They had a daughter same age as mine whose name was Florencia. Last time they met was when they were little. They were like twins when they were togther so her ending up an actress would not have been a complete shock. My mother’s brother died quite some time ago and we have not been in touch much. So when I saw her post about Juiliard, that she was an international student, and her screen name, I thought wouldn’t that be one of those bizarre coincidences if she was my daugher’s cousin. I figured it was a long shot.

So the auditions are winding down for us, and with only one audition left to go, my boy is starting to think seriously about comparing his non-auditioned acceptances, working on the assumption that he may well end up at one of them and had better choose wisely. We would love to hear from anyone who has experience (good or bad) with the University of New Hampshire and the Univ. of Rhode Island. I saw on their website that URI is undertaking a renovation of their fine arts center, but I don’t know details. Anyone? All observations are welcome!

Meantime, and more importantly, good luck to everyone auditioning in Chicago this week! We are thinking of you guys, wishing you great energy, tolerable temperatures, and open-minded auditors! :)

Shouting a huge “Break a Leg!” to all those in Chicago this week!!

I started a new thread on our experience at Coastal Carolina. To sum it up, the visit was fabulous and my daughter LOVES CCU! Next up for us are interviews tied in to GA Thespian Conference: Brenau (for scholarship), Evansville, and Webster. We have to go to Atlanta on Sunday for Webster, but that is much better than having to squeeze in a trip to St. Louis right now. I figure if she is artistically accepted at either Evansville or Webster then we will visit those over spring break. At the end of next week we set off on our long journey of VCU, ShenCo, Otterbein, Wright State, DePaul, and PPU.

Times3-- re URI-- it was D’s backup last year and it has a LOT going for it-- we went to visit and she sat in on two classes both of which were great, and the director spent a long time talking to her-- with much laughter and a real sense of his caring about theater and about his students. It’s small, and they fill in the gaps with guest teachers, but the campus is beautiful, the building was a bit ragged but full of energetic, involved seeming kids. And the small theater scene around there is great-- lots of internship opportunities etc. So–not perfect, but the heart is in the right place, which is half of it to my mind.

Ugadog - My son will be at the Webster audition on Sunday, too! It’s his last - which I am happy/sad about. He received a generous academic scholarship last week, but since he’s in a show that runs till March 3, and then his HS musical, we don’t have time to go visit either. I started a post to try to find some info, but now answers yet. There’s tons of info on the MT Thread, but I was hoping for some directly related to straight acting. Alas, with Unifieds this week, I guess people are too busy. Maybe we will see you Sunday! And then, gosh, that is a whirlwind tour you are headed out on!

Excuse me for a moment while I shout this out:

SHE WAS ARTISTICALLY ACCEPTED TO CCU!!!

Okay, now for the calm me…

I’m not sure who is more excited with this news. Of course, I’m being cautiously optimistic because it really does all boil down to the financial package. For the moment, though, we are going to enjoy the news!

ugadog99 - that is really excellent news and will make the upcoming long weekend at GeorgiaThesCon even more enjoyable! I don’t know about your D, but my D’s ThesCon schedule is crazy busy and she can hardly wait to get there.
