OddDad, I’d check into the audition timing. I’m positive he said the audition to BFA occurs at the end of freshman year (or beginning of sophomore, whichever way you want to word it). I distinctly remember him saying that the first year of classes is considered BA then you audition to move to BFA at the end of that first year. I think I’d make a call or email to get clarification on that. They are on break now, though, so I guess make contact at the first of January.

Ugadog – sorry to hear about CMU, I know how much your daughter was interested in the school. Her time will come.

On our end, I “think” my daughter got an acceptance at U of Arts. She got an email to day from admissions to join the Facebook page of “accepted” students at U of Arts and goes on to say its for students who have already sent in their deposit and deciding whether or not accept. She got some very positive comments at the audition so we were hopeful. I am going to call the admissions office tomorrow to check. Anyone else ever hear of anyone learning about an admission through an invitation to a facebook page?

ActingDad, I wonder if there is a postal letter in the mail that has been delayed by holiday traffic.

Probably. I’ve been PM’ing with the father of an MT kid that reported an acceptance from the earlier U of Arts date and his son got the same facebook acceptance email so I’m going to call admissions and see if there is letter out there somewhere. Given everything else is going electronic, it’s somewhat curious that schools just don’t go ahead and do acceptance letters via email. In my day job, I never trust regular mail for anything.

Sounds like great news, ActingDad! Keeping my fingers crossed for your D!

In all honesty, my daughter was not as upset as I thought she would be. Yes, she was very disappointed, and I’ll probably never know just how much because she keeps her emotions very much to herself. I’m glad we had PPU to focus on for Saturday because there was not much time to dwell on the CMU thing. Before “I” convinced her to apply to CMU (that was her biggest rant…it was MY fault she even applied where she never stood a chance), PPU had been her first choice. I have no idea why, but she fell in love with it early in the process. My goal now is to try to keep her from focusing on one school. At this point, it will be a two step process: 1) artistic/academic acceptance and 2) financial aid.

We leave for WDW on Thursday for the holidays. (My older daughter needs to get some seasonal hours in…or…that’s my excuse!) I’m looking forward to a nine day period of NO college discussion!

Good plan ugadog - WDW is my favorite place in the world, and after yearly trips when the kids were younger, we haven’t been back for four years now - well, someone has to pay for college, right?

I watched AFV last night, as it was the Christmas special that takes place in Disneyland and I was practically crying. Husband says “Don’t get any ideas, woman!”

Enjoy the trip - eat a Mickey bar for me!

Thank you all for sharing your news with us! I wish all your kids the very best.

Disney is a high point in our lives, too. We went a couple of times when the kids were growing up, but H has wanted to go last year and this year (it helps that our Ds’ schedules now make it easier to get down there). I know lots of people love WDW, but I think it’s perhaps special in a different way for theatre kids. In fact, D has a friend who graduated from her program last year who is working as a character there now, a dream job as far as D is concerned.

I called U of Arts admissions and confirmed my daughter was accepted and a letter is in the mail! This is a huge relief to know she’ll be going somewhere. She really liked the Meisner teacher there who is in charge of the acting program and likes the vibe of the place. The other plus is I think she’s going to trim some of the schools on her list so maybe a few less trips for Dad! (Mom has to stay home because she is holding off knee replacement surgery till we are done with this process, can’t drive more than an hour or so and someone has to stay back with my son. Plus she’s prone to stressing my daughter out rather than calming her!)

Glad to hear that news, ActingDad, and congrats to your daughter! My S would love to get some early news and shorten his list, but I don’t think that’s going to happen…How great for her that she has such a wonderful option!

Well, a little news did roll in tonight, though it won’t shorten S’s list–he was accepted to one of his top non-audition schools (Univ. of New Hampshire) and got his academic acceptance to Evansville, where he’ll audition for the program next month. That’ll make that long drive out to Indiana seem a lot more worthwhile

Baby steps, but it’s nice to hear some good news before the holidays! By the way, I heard from another parent that UNH will be an auditioned program next year–2014 kids, take note.

Congrats Actingdad and Times3.

Ugadug99 – hi! We were at PPU auditions in Atlanta on Saturday too (my son auditioned for MT). The recruiter began speaking while we were still waiting on our son to get out of the dance audition, so we didn’t hear – when do they expect to let everyone know from this round of auditions? I saw your daughter interviewing with the faculty, by the way! Best wishes to you guys!

Congrats, Times3!

Mcpcwhite, the recruitment officer said that the academic acceptance comes first. So for those who have auditioned but have not been academically accepted, he will “sit” on the decision until the regular admission has been made. For those that have already been accepted, I believe he said mid to late January. I have to admit that I was only half listening at that point because my daughter has been academically accepted and will probably have to go through a phone or Skype interview with the tech chair before her decision will be made. Since they are on Christmas break now, I don’t think we will know anything until very late January or early February.

Wishing your son the very best!! The more I hear about PPU’s Conservatory, the more I like it.

If your students do get accepted to PPU and you are seriously considering it as an option, be sure to send in your deposit right away, even if you are not through with the decision process.

Great news about your son, Times3…very refreshing!!!

I told you, Times3 - get ready! Here come the acceptances! I guess others have found out about UNH’s theatre program - and the numbers must be driving UNH to go the audition route.

ActingDad - great news for your D. And hope you wife’s knee surgery goes well, too!

I encouraged my D to look at UNH, too. Their program really seems terrific. I guess it won’t quite be the back-up school it has been in the past. I’m wondering if we’ll see URI start to audition soon, too.

When do you guys start a 2013 theatre acceptance thread.

My D was just accepted to NYU Tisch for Acting. Now we can begin cancelling the 15 other auditions we had scheduled.

OMG, researchmaven, CONGRATULATIONS!! Wow!! :)
