Paying 7k a year even with a 3.5k loan is a really good deal IMO. (Esp given the current recession with all colleges facing budgetary cuts)
Personally, I need to pay around 2k but with a 5k loan at Trincoll. However, people easily earn around 2-3k just in the summer alone (research, etc). Also keep in mind that many colleges include low interest loans with their financial aid packets. For example the terms of my loan are very generous, I need to repay the loan within 10 years of starting to work (that means 10 years after I finish my Masters/doctorate program if I chose to) additionally the interest rate is just around 3%.
It is quite normal for colleges to include student loans and work study programs in the Fin aid packet.
Hope I'm making some sense, but a lot of people might be surprised to find loans, work study programs, etc as part of their aid packets, just don't be discouraged.
My $0.02 worth.</p>
