Class of 2013 - Harder than last year?

(This is probably just another unavailing question by me.. )

So the whole nation knows that its super hard to get into colleges these days. Especially many of last year's applicants were shocked by the unexpected, not so satisfying outcomes of the admissions -kids who would've been accepted in no time had they applied a few years ago were rejected and so forth etc.

so my question: Is it only going to be harder, more challenging this year for the Class of 2013?
I know that the year after this will be "the peek" or whatever, but I'd just like to hear your personal prognoses and conjectures. From the looks of it, at least from the stats and profiles posted on CC this year, is it gonna be more competitive? what, like are the students suddenly smarter? Will the number of applicants bloat even more? ahhh

Personally, the senior class at MY school is the biggest class so far in school's history and supposedly "smarter" than the class before us(?), so the school had to increase the number of offered AP courses all of a sudden. Which IS kind of strange...

At my high school, my senior class is supppposedly the smartest, most competitive class they've ever had. We have like 10 people still in the running for valedictorian [I'm number 2, so I still have a chance! lol].
and then.. the upcoming junior class is supposedly the worst-behaved, dumbest, least-competitive, most pot-smoking class we've ever had. So I don't know what's up with that but anyway.

Oh my gosh, it's completely true about the seniors at my school, too!!

Oh wait. I'm homeschooled. :p

I completely agree with INVENIAMVIAM. There was a recent news articled that explained how the class of 2008 and 2009 would be the most competitive years. I initially thought that it was only my school that was uber-competitive, but I've talked with a lot of other people from different districts, and I've heard that EVERYONE in the class of 2009 is competitive. But then again, we live in a bubble surrounded by geniuses. There's still the swarming amount of kids who don't do anything.

INVENIAMVIAM, everything you said completely applies to me and my school. My class is also the largest class our school's ever had, beating the record by 64 people or something. My brother is the class of '10 and his class is like a joke, he only has like a 3.5 and I think he's in the top 10 or 15...

My AP English teacher told me that class of 2013 is the largest graduating high school class in the history of the nation.... oh great.

And I agree with what was said above. At my h.s., this years senior class is one of the most competitive it has seen.

I hate to be the black sheep, but my high school class is the worst my school's ever seen. hah, good for me i guess.

At my school, this is not at all true. The graduated senior class was by far the strongest in the schools history. It is private, so all class sizes are about the same. Almost unbelievably, HYPS accepted MORE applicants than they ever have (some of these with an outrageous 1/4 admit rate, something that should never happen in my opinion). My class pales in comparison to their power. Really. It is far less competitive.

Not true for my high school. Class of 2006 was the most/last competitive class- although that probably reflects the changing social status of many people living in my school district.

Good Bye to all the colleges with a 10% acceptance rate

totally agree with INVENIAMVIAM.
oh, great, so it's not only at my school.

I've heard 2013 is the most difficult in history. After 2013, it starts levelling off. (Dammit. I actually should be a rising junior.)

senior09 - lol, because I forgot about that as well, my class is the largest ever too. We might just go to the same school, except that we're in different states ;]

I don't think there's any huge difference between classes that's going to turn the application process on its head or anything. At my school, the classes of '09 and '10 are about equally competitive, but the class of '08 was by far the largest my high school has seen in awhile.

my school is exactly like INVENIAM'S

@ Butternut:

Don't you lose being both first and last in rank, and in all the deciles?

Homeschooled as well :P

Does anyone know how competitive class of '10 is? :D

next year's will be harder than this years. and the year after that(my year, '10 for highchool 14 for college) will be even harder than you '13s. and the year after mine will be even more competitive than us, however i bet by that time many colleges will increase class size to accommodate all the qualified students (because that's just how lucky i am)

equil, at least the int'ls are VERY competitive our year. I live in Canada, and it seems all the smart people are in my year. the smartest 14 year olds all skipped a grade to compete with us for some reason... and the best.. 5 people in my grade in my school is like better than the best '09 and close to the best '08.

This impressive study knocking at the college door
breaks the graduating seniors stats up by region, state and graduating year.

In a nutshell, if you are white it is slightly better, if your asian/hispanic it gets
worse etc. It is much worse in the south and then the West compared to
the Northeast etc..

Its a huge report ...enjoy!
