The list serv for 2013 is up and running. You can go to the site U.S. Coast Guard Academy Parents Association - National Home Page and sign up. They provide a lot of answers to parents' and swabs' questions and offer a lot of support during a very stressful time.

Thank you so much for posting this. My niece was just accepted into officer candidate school (something like that) at the Coast Guard Academy. I forwarded the link to her parents. It has been very difficult for them to get information so hopefully this will help.

Well OCS is a bit different that the Academy itself, although they are in the same location. The listserv is intended for the parents of first-year cadets at the Academy, but I imagine some of the information will be helpful to your family.

I just read through the FAQs and had the feeling that what my niece will be doing will be somewhat different, but that’s okay. When you’ve been waiting in limbo for a few months, any info is better than nothing! Is there any other place to get info on OSC that you can recommend?

Check out this link. It gives you an overview of the OCS program. It is just 17 weeks which sometimes makes the cadets “mad” since they are there for four years. The OCS people have already graduated college and are a bit older so parental involvement is somewhat less than for the cadets.
