Class of 2013 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

Congatulations to your D, ParentofIvyHope! Caltech is awesome!

My D recieved her acceptance to Macalester yesterday Yeah !!

I had been out of town…and got a call wondering when I was going to be home with the key to the mailbox…she read that acceptances had been mailed !! She handled the 2 hour wait for me to drive home like a trooper…and now has a permanant smile on her face !!

D received her first acceptance today – in at University of Chicago.

D got her acceptance today ED1 from Bates. She is VERY happy.

my son recieved his first and last ED acceptance to Vassar clss of 2013! We are delighted.

My twins are all set as well. Daughter accepted Immediate Decision (similar to ED) to Bard College right before Thanksgiving, and last night son received ED acceptance to Washington University in St. Louis.

Apps are done, kids got their first choices, and this Mom is starting to shed tears, wishing they were 4 years old again.

My son was accepted at Yale (SCEA) yesterday. Our delight is only tempered by the fact that we already paid the fees and sent in the supplements for all the other schools he applied to RD.

I think my D’s plans are in place as well- got a full tuition offer and was invited to compete for Chancellor’s and Med School Guarantee at Pitt, but didn’t really care for the campus; accepted to Honors at UMich-Ann Arbor; deferred at G’town and Caltech. Same time the deferrals came, nice scholarship offer from Michigan. What was also nice was that she also realized Michigan was a great school for her- good programs in Math, Biology, French and Chem but also a great school spirit with lots of opportunities. So it looks like she’s a future Wolverine at this point.

CC has been a great resource for us- without all of the great advice I have received here I don’t know where we’d be right now. Hunt, I’m like you- thinking of all the other applications we’ve already submitted and the $$!

DS2 received acceptance today to the University of Connecticut Honors Program with half tuition merit scholarship. (WooHoo!) He has visited UConn and knows students in the Honors program and can definitely imagine himself attending so its a great day here in the middle of midterms!

I posted that my D was accepted ED to Macalester on Saturday. We got the Financial Aid Award letter today and now mom is doing the Happy Dance !!! Mac was more than fair and made my daughters dream come true.

I was laid off from my job a month ago so I have been seriously worried how this was going to play out. Miracles do happen !!!

congrats to everyone :D

That is awesome, Flutemom!

FLutemom, does your D plan to study music? Would love to hear how Mac works out – it’s on S2’s list of schools he’s considering.

CountingDown, No, she is planning on studying International Studies/Spanish. Mac does have a number of ensembles that she plans on participating in though. That was one of her sticking points when choosing a school. She wanted a school where non-majors could be involved in music to some extent.

I will still be around here as there is still so much to learn from those that have been there done that with their freshman…I will update as things progress. I just sent the card in for admitted students visit in April…she can hardly wait.

To Hunt (#87) who lamented the wasted money on other college applications:

Most parents would gladly trade places with you…

My daughter was accepted ED at Smith - found out on line and then by mail - good FA - we are all happy and relieved to be done - 6 years till we have to do it again:)

D was accepted several months to Baylor (safety) and got an out of the blue total free ride offer from Alabama so she applied and was accepted.
She also got an early announcement of regular admission from Wash U the week before Christmas. This was a total shock as they do not have rolling admissions, only ED and RD. Her congratulations letter, complete with housing and enrollment forms, specifically said it was non-binding and she had until May 1 to decide.
They indicated that periodically they choose to let some students know before their normal notification for RD! There were at least 2 other CCers who also got the same letter as D.
I read some earlier posts on this thread suggesting that some people did 2 EDs and hoped to clarify that apparently there are some schools that let RD applicants know around the same time as ED applicants.
I am curious to see if there are any other schools that let RD applicants know they are accepted prior to their official release dates in March or April.
D has not had any merit aid letter from Wash U…yet. She will be busy getting those merit scholarship apps done this weekend.

My D has been accepted to both places that offered her a non-binding early decision: Willamette University and Beloit College. She got a very nice merit scholarship from Willamette and will be interviewing for a similar one at Beloit the end of January.

She’s applied a number of other places, but these are the only two we expected to hear from till the regular decision date. So we still have a lot of waiting & wondering to do. But she is encouraged to be 2-for-2 so far, and the merit scholarship really made her realize the true value of all her hard work.

Exciting times!

S got in ED at Williams and is very happy–he’d start tomorrow if they let him. A lot of his friends, who are generally quite talented, seem to have gotten caught up in unexpectedly heavy EA/ED volume at some schools and most got deferred. He had to do a lot of work on other aps to make sure they would all have been done by 1/1/09, but was delighted he didn’t have to finish.

Congrats to all, and especially to overwhelmedmom, since I am a Smith grad myself.

I’m sure your daughter will love it there. My older one wasn’t interested (she’s now a sophomore at Stanford) but I’m hoping the younger one will take a look! I love any excuse to go back to that amazing campus!
