my mom went to college in the US so she kinda advises me but it was like ages ago, that and my school is screwed up... apparently I have to tell my teacher exactly what to write in my letter of rec... so stupid

I'm really confused about the teacher recomendations.. I left high school 3 years ago, so my teachers' opinions of me won't reflect what I'm like now. Do I still have to it? :/

portugueseninja - I think recommendations are mandatory, though some schools only need one.

The guy at our school who know everything about the US application process has LEFT. The rest of the teachers are kind of sarcastic about the US since we're a British school and not many kids apply there.

Who needs school counselors when you got CC?

I'm homeschooled through a french program. When I call my tutors (in France), they're like : Euh, recs ? You're applying to universities. Not to grad schools, or a job. What do you need a rec letter for ? And, um, aren't they obligated to accept you ? And why don't you just go to a classe preparatoire ? You could get in l'ENS, you know !

sigh

^That seems to be a French mentality (no offense to any French people..) because university in France is free for all citizens, right?

Well, not exactly free, but cheap. And they have to accept everybody from the 'academie' with a baccalaureate..

Ha.. maybe we should all apply to French schools instead :D partyyyy

Hahaha, then we should all hook up in France :p

YEAH! finally put those french speaking skills I so excellently showed off in my speaking exam yesterday coughcough*

I'm sure you'd be fine, beeish. MY French is terrible! We don't do enough speaking practice in class. I got an A* at GCSE but can't communicate to save my life :D

I dont even know French :S

J'aime francais.

Thanks miraboo! I did okay in my trial so hopefully I did okay in the actual exam... and S33D Je l'aime aussi!

If your school in Oz is anything like mine in India, 70% in the school exams = 90% (or whatever a 'great' grade is) in the final thing

*Le souris a mang

tetrisfan - my school is retardadly retarded - our school grades get scaled up massively... or at least they have in past years - it all depends how well your year does as a cohort - but like for the french speaking trial the year average was like 18.5 out of 20 and there are 37 kids taking that course... so hopefully the grades will be adjusted accordingly... but if you screw up the actual HSC well then your kinda screwed

just wondering if everybody in here took TOEFL.
i've beem living in the u.s. since my freshman year in high school, so this is my 4th year. do i have to take it in order to apply to colleges?

I think the TOFEL is waived for people who have attended schools outside the US, whose language of instruction is English, for five years or more. I'm not sure about international students living in the US though.

I would definetly check with the schools your applying too... since its a US school you may not have to take it since you can obviously speak english but yeah definetly check with the schools your applying too or your college counseller... I mean if you cbb to call the schools its only an email that you have to send although I have to say with my experiences with emaisl... they generallly aren't too helpful!
