Class of 2013

Okay my application has been sent since November. I received a letter that my decision would be coming a little later! I'm furious but am excited to find out. Anybody else applying for the Class of 2013? Where are you from & What are you going to major in? I'm from Boston and I'm majoring in Biology.

a lot of new yorkers from my school applied ed

3 of my friends will be attending ed [were from nyc]
i applied rd but my aunt would much rather me attend howard.

a couple ov my friends older sisters loves IT! but the distance from georgia to ny is just to far :\ im hoping if i get howard while im in dc i can stop in the white house and shake hands with president b.obama

cool! i just came from DC for the March For Life ( which is for pro life people). Its gorgeous & I saw Howard, im thinking I should apply but I dont want to turn my list of 11 schools to 12 (lol) I dont know Im going to discuss it with my parents. but thats great! Thanx for replying!

I applied to Spelman as well, and I was accepted, but I feel like the school isn't going to be all that it's cracked up to be. I think it's going to be a really small insignificant school and Im scared of that. I also was accepted to Howard and Im scared that school is going to have holes in the ceilings and cracks in the floor. These are the only schools that didn't offer me a scholarship and I find that to be extremely annoying. Especially when I compare it to the other schools that have given me scholarships. If anyone has ever been to Spelman or Howard, let me know if the place is beautiful or not PLEASE!!!

HAHAHA, I had a similar experience. Everytime I'd tell someone they would be like "what's Spelman" while when I went to an information session they all were attending ivy league graduate schools. But you probably didn't get any scholarships because if your african american and you apply to HBCU's it's harder for you to get in with money, then let's say an asian person. This is also the same with non-HBCU's, it may be easier for you to get scholarships because of your URM (under-represented minority) status, while a non-URM student may not. That's what I think. I too haven't seen the campus, the pictures look gorgeous but I'm planning on visiting if I get accepted (which I expect) but whatevs. For Howard, I did see the campus last week when I went to the March for Life, it's gorgeous but I didn't have time to see the classrooms. it does happen to be in a "ghetto" region (lol), that's what the students like to call it, but then again DC in itself is beautiful so you don't have to stay on campus all the time. Hope that helped!

p.s. try visiting during feb. vacation to Howard, since it's closer, Idk about Spelman bc those plane tickets are expensive! Good Luck!

wow, this thread has died : (

I am attending ...well hopefully i will i applied regular decision in February and i am awaiting my reply. Im from KC and I plan on majoring in biology as well.

yay! I'm waiting too! Another Bio major! Thinking of minoring in anything, (if we both get in, fingers crossed!)? I'm thinking of having a minor in French.

Spelman's campus is very beautiful, particularly in the spring. I loved strolling around the historic side of campus in the springtime; it's warm and beautiful outside, we have cherry blossom trees and freshly planted flowers everywhere. It's an allergic person's nightmare, but beautiful. Less so in the winter, when most things are dead.

Downside, however -- not gonna lie -- is the size. Spelman's campus is TINY. It takes 10 minutes to walk from one side to the other -- and that's going the long way and walking at a slow, steady pace. It's nice at first when you realize you don't have to run to class if you wake up late or take a bus across campus, but after a couple of years it gets a little claustrophobic and you may find yourself wishing you were somewhere bigger. I'm at Columbia now for a Ph.D and I'm so glad it's bigger.

It is very hard to get scholarships at Spelman. Test scores are a large factor. To get any kind of scholarships you should have at least a 1200+ CR + M score, and to get the highest (a full ride), I would expect a 1350+ score. Spelman was not considering writing scores as of 2008 admissions cycle (for the class of 2012), because they wanted to wait to see the section vetted. I am not sure whether they are currently using it or not.

You biology majors will be in good company. It is the most popular freshman major.

oo, no! my allergies are horrible, especially in the spring lol. but i love warmer weather, Im getting quite a bit tired of the cold weather here. Congratulations on Columbia! (even though Im kind of late) Im glad theres alot of Biology majors though, I guess it makes it easier for me to not have a life lol.

I want to minor in political science

cool! I know alot of people interested in that, you want to go into politics? That’s exciting!

Superwoman, or anyone else…did you end up getting in and attending Spelman? I applied RD and I’m still waiting for my letter. I really want to go there, it’s my first choice.

hey…I applied to Spelman, which is like my first choice…but Im kind of wondering if I will get accepted, my GPA is a 3.27…my SAT scored we not the best, but the essays and all were good, how long does it usually take to recieve the letter?

Hello everyone! Spelman is my first choice as well and I appied early. I got a letter from Spelman in January stating that the decision will be made by April 1st. I am so upset about this because I applied in November. I am just waiting for my response, unpatiently!!! I would also like to know how long it takes to recieve the letter…
