I'm a high school sophomore... Am I on track?

Unweighted GPA: 3.99 (one B :-)
Weighted GPA: 5.1
AP classes so far: AP Human Geo, AP Macroeconomics, AP Statistics, AP World History

Planning to take Junior Year:
AP Bio, AP Lang, AP Calc BC, and AP Environmental

Extracurriculars:
HOSA, Student Government, Key Club, Beta, NHS
Senior year is not yet decided...

Psat this year: 166 :(

Im actually studying for the SAT now and my last practice test score was 2250! :D (That score didn't come easily)
- Oh, and I'm a first generation African American male (Originally from Nigeria). Any chance? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

if you can keep your uw gpa, get 2250 on the stats, and rank top 10% in your class your stats will be great.

Your ECs, however, are not harvard caliber. Do you have any leadership positions? Or plan to obtain any leadership positions in the next two years?
what is your intended major? what are your plans for the summer?

^^I don’t have any leadership positions yet, but I plan to run for many offices during junior and senior year.

hahaha just one question- isn’t highest possible gpa a 5.0?

Okay back to the point. Your unweighted GPA/weighted GPA are good. Even though there are horror stories about how a single B can ruin your whole chances of getting into an Ivy, with good EC’s, letters of rec, and personality you can get in with a few dents in your transcript. For EC’s, not really sure if you have any leadership positions, so try to show your skills and stuff. Obviously, your PSAT score could be higher, but since it’s only sophomore year it won’t count. Make sure to get at least 220-230 next year! And get the SAT up to a 2300 (which I’m sure you will be able to do with practice).

All in all, you are at least in the running to be considered competitive. You are on track, just keep up the good grades, get good PSAT & SAT scores, be involved in EC’s.

Good luck!
Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1304596-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html

^Thanks for the advice! Btw, my friend’s brother ended up with an 8.1 thanks to flvs and dual-enrollment.

If you get that 2250+ SAT score, your academics will be in range, but your extracurriculars will really hurt you. Harvard will be a very high reach.

Do you think I could fix my EC problem before it’s too late? I still have 2 years left…

It’s difficult but not impossible. Search on CC for the Official Harvard Class of 2015 Results page, and read the extracurriculars of those who were accepted. Perhaps you can get osme ideas.

^great advice above.

That being said, keep in mind that you have to be original - find a way to make yourself stand out.

If you have an intended major, do some ECs that are in relation to it.

Hey, keep studying for the standarized tests, keep your grades up and just think positively throughout highschool, I am very convinced that you can bring that PSAT score up because I had a bad score in sophomore year but studied and got 99 percentile in my last PSAT. Do things that you enjoy doing in high school and go all out to do your best in them, that will keep you going in the long run, good luck buddy

Chance me please:

Hey you’re a sophomore like me! Haha. xP
You’ve taken more AP’s then me though. Probably because my school offers barely any AP. My school isn’t very academically based derpderp.

My PSAT this year was I think a 190. My friend, in the same grade got a 220 though.

You don’t have many extracurriculars, and from them I can’t really see your passion. I wouldn’t worry too much about that 3.99 GPA though.

I think that as long as you just do what you want to do, and engage yourself in ECs that are relevant to your decided career path, you’re good.
That plus SAT/AP/SAT II/ACT shtuff of course.

You have as good of a chance as anyone but remember that harvard only accepts about 6% of its applicants and more than half are qualified. If you get 2250+ on your SAT’s I would say you have a good shot at it.

Chance me please:

Great advice everyone! I really appreciate it. I’ll be sure to chance back. This is one of the reasons that I LOVE CC! :D
