Class of 2014 Decisions Thread

I finally got into my application tracker today (lost password earlier), only to find this:

All of your required application materials have been received by the December 15 priority deadline. Thank you! Admission decisions are sent on a rolling basis. Some decisions are sent as early as December, with all students who submit complete applications by the priority deadline receiving their decisions by the end of February. We will complete a very careful, overall assessment of your application and your decision will be mailed no later than the end of February. .

:(

Tmac18- No frowny faces. You’re just one step away from the “carefully considered” status.
The schools are on TG break and will have thousands of apps to go through when they get back. You made the priority deadline. You’ll probably hear early next month.

Where is it supposed to say carefully considered? On the email, or on the tracker?

To the person who speculated that out-of-state students were the ones hearing sooner… I’m from MN and heard two days ago, so I don’t think that’s the case

Yay my status checker finally changed! Institute of Technology and Honors

Mollymauk, dbwes…

We are OOS too thus we are interested in finding out more about the OOS tuition waiver requirements. Do you have any details?

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Tmac18-how many times did you check the status everyday? UIUC / Purdue / TC…

MWD2- posts from last years applicants had people getting scholarship letters in mid/late 12/2008. Others were waiting for news in late March.

Same thing with Honors acceptances.
OK let me just say it. I feel bruised at not getting invited to Honors. That’s it. No flames please and no, I won’t give stats. I’m just venting. It’s healthy.

To whomever said that they did not expect to get scholarships (I believe it was the OP), I wouldn’t say that just yet. I was accepted last year with very similar stats and I got plenty of merit-based scholarship awards. If you have considerable financial need, you can also expect to get generous need-based awards, grants, work-study, or low interest loans. It takes a little while to get information about the Honors Program and scholarship awards. Congrats to those that have been accepted.

Admitted to Carlson and Honors

I got the letter in the mail yesterday and decided to check the portal today and it said i was also admitted to honors. In the letter yesterday it said nothing about honors so i think these are two seperate letters so all of you on here that have great stats don’t need to worry

Stewie… I’m the one who said I didn’t expect scholarships. Are you from Minnesota or OOS? because the general feeling here in MN is that UMN favors OOS considerably when it comes to scholarships. Either way, I’m very unlikely to attend UMN as I’ve received considerable scholarship offers elsewhere, so unless UMN opens up their pockets…

MidwestDad – This is what is listed on that link I gave you. The “waiver” is essentially an OOS scholarship:

National Scholarship Gold National: Covers the full difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates each year for 4 yrs
Maroon National: Covers 50% of the difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates each year for 4 yrs
resident of any state, excluding Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin
top 15% of graduating class
academic performance; high academic potential; evidence of outstanding leadership, creativity, unique work or service experience; special talents; community involvement; educational disadvantage; contribution to diversity

Accepted into Institute of Technology!!!

ACT: 31
GPA: around 94ish, our school doesn’t use the 4.0 scale
Rank: Top 12 %
OOS- from New York

I’m just so excited!!!

congrats bjorika! What’s status of your application before you received the decision? When did you submitted the application?

The status was something like “Your applications being carefully considered.” And I submitted my application around early October.

Matok, I am from MN. A lot of what they give to OOS students is to cover the additional cost of being OOS. I think UMN was very generous with the scholarships it gave to me considering that there are about 50,000 students here.

mom2010grad - your son’s stats and letter are very similar to my son’s. Well, actually, we don’t even really know how to check it online, but he got the letter/packet in the mail. We’re also out of state/reciprocity, and his application was complete in September.

35 ACT
3.92 Unweighted, 4.09 Weighted
7 AP’s
18 College Credits (Dual Enrollment)
Rank 3/426

So is there no chance to get into honors if the status said I was simply accepted? And what are their standards for honors? xD

Is there a pattern for when acceptances are released or is it just sporadic?

marciemi - The admissions packet my son received in the mail did not have the honors letter included. The honors notice was on the on-line applications tracker notification (although it said the letter had been mailed). Now that you have the admissions letter you should have a student id number. This can be used to check your admissions status under admissions, freshmen, application tracker on their website. Your son’s ACT is outstanding! Congratulations on his U of M acceptance.

mom2010 - okay, it took awhile, but we managed to figure out the online system. Involved a phone call - not sure how we were supposed to have known our internet number (which was nothing like the student ID number), but once they gave that to me, we were then able to access the website using his old password. His says the same thing - “Congratulations! You have been admitted to the prestigious University Honors Program! Your Honors admission letter has been mailed.” But we haven’t received that yet. Honestly, I don’t even recall him applying for that specifically - was that a separate application, a box you checked, or does the school determine that? He’d probably know more than I would!
