class of 2014 essays

Doing a little research and am wondering what were the most creative/thought-provoking/interesting/ fun to write essays from supplemental applications this year?

Gotta admit Uof Chicago's were great:

Dog and Cat. Coffee and Tea. Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye. Everyone knows there are two types of people in the world. What are they?

Inspired by an alumna of the Class of 2006

Find x.

Inspired by Benjamin Nuzzo, an admitted student from Eton College, UK

and of course,Tufts who offered oppurunity for YouTube submissions

I agree, so far UChicago’s supplemental essays have peaked my curiosity. U Chicago is one of the schools DS is very interested in. Saw him this week scribbling down thoughs on the essays. I think he picked “find X”.

I showed non-verbal math-head son the “Find X” essay, thinking YES! Finally an essay topic he can relate to! He hated it. Go figure.

Funny thing, my “if I never take a math class again it would be too soon” daughter loved that topiC!

And then there was the NYU one which read: write a haiku, limereck or short (eight lines or fewer) poem that best represents you - which she hated!
