Well, what kind of explanation are you planning to give? Are you going to tell them hoe you received a B or are you going to tell them why you retook the test despite getting an A?
In the first explanation there is the risk that they might take your explanation as an excuse for getting a B. In the latter explanation you risk coming off as a grade-oriented(in your case % oriented ;)) student. So, I think it would be best if you said nothing about it at all. Just my 2 cents.

If you plan on taking the writing section as well then you’ll have to wait until oct. And mind you that many universities require the writing section if you take the ACT.

Also even if you’re planning to take the ACT test without writing on sept. then I don’t think you’ll be able to take it any sooner than 24 oct.

hey donod, “basically ACT tests ur speed but doesnt test that much vocab like SAT…” that’s true but how precisely can you say that you know " so if u are fast in answering questions then this is a better option than SAT… but if ur not that fast then i suggest u to give SAT…" As far as i think ACT is all about vomiting what one has mastered at his/her high school coz it covers topics specifically studied at one’s high school while sat is more about mastering the vocab and our english and grammer skills. The speed to answer the question si same in SAT or ACT after it’s all about multiple choice quetions in both. Taking abt mathematics, unlike SAT where math’s is only limited to algebra ACT goes till pre-calculus…basically as we study in our alevels maths ie.; P1 ,P2 and P3.

hey guyz, i had some of my queries regarding SAT exam fees, so to feed my hunger i visited **"<a href="College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; this link… they had all the info. i needed such as basic registration fees, extra sat subj. fee… i kept on adding the fees currently my total is $92 (incl. 3 sat subj. fee)…so far so good… but my eyes went on to staring at a column labeled Additional Processing Fees saying… guess what … hold ur breath…add to test fees… that moment that shaked me up… coz my total was $118…now what does that additional processing fees mean… do we really have to add it??? plzz help me on this…

@donod.

retaking an A is simply dumb. Didn’t you ask anybody before you did that? not even guidance counsellors? The colleges may think you are pretty OBSESSIVE, which, i think si not good.can i know which subject you retook?

and yes ACT is a inexpensive than SATs (mind the plural) because the overall cost of SAT 1 and 2 is more than ACT.
If you take ACT, you don’t have to take SAT subject tests.hence it is cheaper.

so the May June results are out. Anyone willing to share their grades??? You can PM me if not here…i’ll PM back

But there are quite a few universities that do not waive subject tests even if you take ACT instead of SAT I.

@ donod.
i was once advised by a senior " don’t go for the top ranked colleges, go for the colleges that best suits you (financially, major, location sutff like that)".
I think this advice is to be heeded.
And i don’t think acceptance into the college changes with a few changes in rankings.

ok… here it goes… i dnt know if i shud b posting or not but anyways here it goes-

phy- A, chem- A, bio-A, economics-A,

gave maths in nov 08 got an A but gave again in june and got a B unfortunately…

this june, in maths i wrote 3 papers very well-wud have definetly got full in those three… but the last paper has so damn horrible, it made a difference between gettin 100% in maths and gettin a B…

and by da way i dont hav a guidance counseller in my school… im da only one who is apply to US from dat school… i know i was dumb… but i cant change wat has happend, so its betta i think wat i can do now… so advise me wat i shud do regardin maths- wat explanation i shud give any or i shudnt give any at all…

n regardin da colleges dat i will apply,

i cant apply to any college dat doesnt give full ride, i just cant pay… n i havent decided my major yet… thats da reason y i took- phy, chem, bio, maths n eco…

but i will soon decide…

so can u suggest me da colleges where i can get full scholarship, oh yeah my SAT score is very poor… im givin again in oct… oh yeah n it shudnt b dat competitive as well… i know dis is wat every1 is searchin for… but still… colleges dat have given nepalis full ride…

that was str8t A’s. Would love to have that. Dunno why u messed it up.
I don’t think u should let the college know abt ur new grades ( if that’s allowed).
As to an explanation, each and every one i can think of seems lame. By the way i can’t even think of many.

other than that everything’s fine.
And why isn’t anyone applying to the US from an a level college? I’m amazed. it’s ok not to have a GC. Many colleges don’t. Did you not give GP?
If you don’t mind you can disclose you alma mater.

no they will know my grades… if i try to hide da B then i have to hide the As as well, hehe…
no, i didnt give GP… we had the freedom to take as many subs and the subs we wanted to take… n i think GP is not preferrd that much over other subs by colleges…

the school is in india, u wont know abt it… i am the only nepali from there to have ever studied in that school… u wont beleive but da school had very few students 24 in total from pre-kg to A levels… there were 2 students in A level and 2 students in AS level… i was studyin phy with my only frien in A level, bio alone, eco alone, maths alone and even chem alone… so it was like a private tutorin class… i guess dats da reason i got straight As… im really thankfull for my teachers… name doesnt matter… no one in nepal wud have heard abt that school, except my friens, i guess…

oh yeeah my friens r applied to UK, n they got addmission there as well… so am da only one applyin to US from there…

i guess for da explanation i guess i have to ask in other forums… anyways thanks for thinkin for explanation… just try to think of some other explanation, if possible, thanks…
