couldn’t agree more thanks mathmomvt for your insightful posts and your patience with us stressed out newbies

I also agree with Mathmom. This thread was originally established to help us all find out as soon as possible whether our kids (esp those right around the cutoffs) are going to make it.

Obviously if anyone has info from their high school as to the actual state cutoff they should post it. Otherwise, it will be helpful when anyone knows that they’ve qualified with a score lower than the previously known lowest qualifying score for any state. Am assuming that someone will collate the info and frequently update/post it.

Good luck to all.

My hat’s in with mathmomvt. She has provided some really good information in the past.

Hopefully homeschoolers will get some letters tomorrow and some of us will be able to relax.

It has taken me a while, but I have learned to enjoy this crazy process. I went through it several years ago with D1 and now with D2.

Moderator’s note

Since we are expecting scores to be coming out now for cutoffs, please post if you know your State score. No more hoping scores, only happy or sad scores going forward if you know your result.

Word from the principal yesterday, my son from Iowa scored a 211 and is a NMSF.

IAFRECO…do you know: Is 211 the cutoff? or do you know he made it with a 211? And congrats to your son!!! :)

I just know he made it with a 211 but don’t know the cutoff. Anyone with a 211 or above from Iowa can rest easy.

Last three numbers for Iowa were 209 210 207.

So even if there is a jump, it is within 4.

Come on, Ohio…would love to see a number from OH!! And, again, great job to those who made it in Iowa (and everywhere else :)

Does anyone have a link to the 2007 state by state qualifying scores (the last time the national Commended cutoff was 203)?

Thanks.

Here you go: The 2007 scores are in blue:

If anyone from Oklahoma gets their score, please post!

posts 648 - 655 please see post #646

KCTaxguy: the only number posted in those posts you named DO name an actual score that made it NMSF in IA. What’s the issue?

And away we go!

See the stickied FAQ thread in this forum for links to lists of previous scores.

After the press-release date in mid-September, qualifying scores will be available by phone from the NMSC. Here is the number to call–the receptionist will give you one “qualifying score” when asked.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation
1560 Sherman Avenue
Suite 200
Evanston, Illinois 60201-4897
Main Telephone: (847) 866-5100
Main Fax: (847) 866-5113

You can feel free to edit the list yourself. Or simply post your information and rely on others to edit it in.

If you have been notified that you are NMSF, post your score (and your state) if it is lower than the score already posted for your state. It will then become the lowest know qualifying score and be indicated as “<=”.

If you have reliable knowledge of what the qualifying score for your state is (try asking whoever notifies you!), post it here, too. It will become the definitive cut-off score for your state indicated by “=”.

Finally, if you know that you did not qualify and had a reasonably high score, it can also be useful to post your score as an example of the highest non-qualifying score. This can be indicated by “>=”

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t. But everyone should be tolerant of mistakes, too. This is an unofficial source of information derived from a collaborative process and is not, therefore, guaranteed.

10(?) Boarding school regions
No scores reported yet.
These usually are set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among the individual states in the region.

Internationals=?
This usually is set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among all the individual states.

Commended (national cutoff) = 203
Any person with a score equal to or higher than this cutoff who is not a NMSF receives commended status. This group represents the highest 50,000 scorers.

Post #647 was great … the rest violated #646. If we have 6 posts for every score this thread will become even more cumbersome.

Mail just came in Ohio…

The wait is over…

215 is NMSF. The letter does not tell the cutoff. Congrats to our DD and Suzysmom!!!
