***Class of 2014 NMSF Qualifying scores***

Please use this template that explains the symbols below for each state

See the stickied FAQ thread in this forum for links to lists of previous scores.

After the press-release date in mid-September, qualifying scores will be available by phone from the NMSC. Here is the number to call–the receptionist will give you one “qualifying score” when asked.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation
1560 Sherman Avenue
Suite 200
Evanston, Illinois 60201-4897
Main Telephone: (847) 866-5100
Main Fax: (847) 866-5113

You can feel free to edit the list yourself. Or simply post your information and rely on others to edit it in.

If you have been notified that you are NMSF, post your score (and your state) if it is lower than the score already posted for your state. It will then become the lowest known qualifying score and be indicated as “<=”.

If you have reliable knowledge of what the qualifying score for your state is (try asking whoever notifies you!), post it here, too. It will become the definitive cut-off score for your state indicated by “=”.

Finally, if you know that you did not qualify and had a reasonably high score, it can also be useful to post your score as an example of the highest non-qualifying score. This can be indicated by “>=”

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t. But everyone should be tolerant of mistakes, too. This is an unofficial source of information derived from a collaborative process and is not, therefore, guaranteed.

I have the Texas letter in my hand. I work at the school. It contains nothing about the state cutoff. Maybe those principals could deduce the cutoff by knowing what multiple kids made but its not in our letter. We are very small and only had one kid make it.

double check me people, info coming in fast & furious!

@brawny77

All we know so far in TX is that 218 didn’t make it & 230 did… More info to come for sure

Our principal just called to inform me that my son is a NMSF with a 220 in Washington State - big relief! I do not know what the cutoff is, however.

216 in PA didn’t make it (per principal)

If a score did not make it, it should not have an = sign.

PA >216

You could use the equal sign with a higher number.

PA>= 217

TX >=219 and <=230

@texaspg

I’m just going by Descartez’s methodology:

If you have been notified that you are NMSF, post your score (and your state) if it is lower than the score already posted for your state. It will then become the lowest known qualifying score and be indicated as “<=”.

If you have reliable knowledge of what the qualifying score for your state is (try asking whoever notifies you!), post it here, too. It will become the definitive cut-off score for your state indicated by “=”.

Finally, if you know that you did not qualify and had a reasonably high score, it can also be useful to post your score as an example of the highest non-qualifying score. This can be indicated by “>=”

Did someone mention my name?

I can’t recall if I followed texaspg’s suggestion (and don’t want to look) but it is a correct one. I think I assumed “>=”, by implication, would be converted to the next score up when applied.

But I also see that the list has already been corrected!

Sorry I did not read the instructions.

Mathematically, it would be wrong since it gives the impression 216 is a possible score for PA. I would think the possible score should be bumped by a minimum of 1 if a score did not make it?

So 217 is still possible since 216 did not make it in PA until someone tells us 217 did not either.

Descartesz is in the house! What do you say sir?

Florida, as usual, appears to be a bit slow on their score distribution. Waiting on info with a 223, have a feeling there won’t be any until next week though.

Right, so if like PA reports 216 doesn’t make it then it is:

PA>=217 (216 didn’t make it per post #706)

Preliminary results suggests this will be a disappointing year for many who thought they were relatively “safe” qualifiers.

@Descartesz based on the information we’ve seen so far, do you think a 223 in California will cut it? Further, when will information about California start to come in? My school claims they haven’t gotten the letter yet.

Got a call from our principal and 226 in NJ makes the cut! Yippee!!! Congrats to my DS and all of the semi-finalists…And to all of the kids out there who work hard and try their best…

Sorry, ckfy, I’m not going to speculate on this. The global trend is more easily identified than any particular one. My opinion is only as good as any one else’s and, about what you ask, little better than a coin toss. You have my best wishes, however.

Tough trend at least with the three we have nailed down:

KS 216

+4 from 2013
+2 from 2012
+1 over highest previous (215 in 2006)

OH 215

+3 from 2013
+1 from 2012
tied alltime high (215 in 2007 & 2006)

OK 210

+4 from 2013
+1 over alltime high (209 in 2012)

also, I want to reiterate:

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t.
