I’ve been keeping this list based on the updates and a list of historical cutoffs posted earlier in this thread. It appears that the speculation that the cutoffs will be near the cutoffs from 2 years ago are correct and the cutoffs are also very close to the historical highs on average. Of the states that have been nailed down by this tread, the average cutoff is 0.14 above the 2012 cutoffs. For the same states the average cutoff is 0.86 below the historical maximum cutoff, although this is schewed by TN which is 5 below their historical max. Without TN the aveage cutoff is 0.54 below the historical maximum.

I know that this will be hard to read because of formatting, but the columns are: State, Current Range, Max Cutoff based on the current range, devation from 2013, deviation from 2012, deviation from 2007 (a historical high year), deviation from historical max, and historical max.

KYCATSFAMILY:
Thanks so much for your post yesterday. It did alleviate a LOT of stress…got the phone call from the principal today here in West KY and my son did make it with a 211. Wow, that was close! Congratulations to your student! And thanks to ROCKFISHDG and everyone else for this great thread!

224 in CA made it

How do we know that Texas is confirmed, or do we just know that it’s 219 or below? I got a 217 in Texas so Im hoping it keeps going down…

DS got official confirmation that 212 made it.

@makinascene
unfortunately, the bold = sign means that the cutoff is set at 219

@makinascene Post #690 reported that 218 did not make it in TX. I also recall that someone figured out that TX & OH are in the same boarding school region - OH region=219 (per post #781)

@AjjiMom Congrats!

updating with the tightening up of CA

Please use this template that explains the symbols below for each state

See the stickied FAQ thread in this forum for links to lists of previous scores.

After the press-release date in mid-September, qualifying scores will be available by phone from the NMSC. Here is the number to call–the receptionist will give you one “qualifying score” when asked.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation
1560 Sherman Avenue
Suite 200
Evanston, Illinois 60201-4897
Main Telephone: (847) 866-5100
Main Fax: (847) 866-5113

You can feel free to edit the list yourself. Or simply post your information and rely on others to edit it in.

If you have been notified that you are NMSF, post your score (and your state) if it is lower than the score already posted for your state. It will then become the lowest known qualifying score and be indicated as “<=”.

If you have reliable knowledge of what the qualifying score for your state is (try asking whoever notifies you!), post it here, too. It will become the definitive cut-off score for your state indicated by “=”.

Finally, if you know that you did not qualify and had a reasonably high score, it can also be useful to post your score as an example of the highest non-qualifying score. This can be indicated by “>=”

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t. But everyone should be tolerant of mistakes, too. This is an unofficial source of information derived from a collaborative process and is not, therefore, guaranteed.
