15 out of 16 semi-finalists make finalist so it is probably easier to look at what factors prevent you from being a finalist. Clearly not completing the application and based on a few posts here there are probably a number where that applies. Next is GPA and it is informally reported you need at least a 3.5 GPA. It is also informally reported that if you had 2 or more reported “C” grades that you are in jeopardy. I am sure there are a few that had some disciplinary run in that may exclude them. The SAT also has to meet a minmum score but I doubt that excludes many.

Does the SAT score requirement change every year or is it always 1960?

That has been the minimum for the past few years, but the recommendation is to shoot for 2000 to be safe.

Is it too early to anticipate the start of the Class of 2015 thread? Also, is it true that PSAT scores are released this coming December? (not the cutoffs)

The scores usually start coming out first week of December. We can probably start a thread around time.

alright, thanks!

This is rather late, but just came across it. Michigan list, including NAF as well. Maybe it will help someone next year looking for lists, in case they publish every year.

[Michigan Semifinalists named in 2014 National Merit and Achievement Scholarship programs 1](http://www.studentandachiever.org/saa_102213_merit.htm)

Detroit typical urban… Detroit Jesuit produces 6 Merit the rest of Detroit schools …0.

Thanks so much celesteroberts! I hadn’t seen that yet and my D’s school doesn’t announce anything until they have finalist info.

If anyone is wondering, corporate-sponsored special scholarship award candidates names has also been sent to schools. My son’s GC has given him the letter this week.

I think the corporate ones don’t all come out at once. (In particular, many are for finalists only, so it would be too soon to award them now.)

207 in Louisiana. Any chance of making the cutoff? It was 209 last year. Are scores in general down?

^My state’s cutoff went up to 214 from 212-ish last year.
