Class of 2014 REA Applicants

anyone else nervous???

so nervous. decisions should be coming out in about 2 weeks! ahhh!

cant wait for the big envelope!

Last year, I forgot I had even applied to BC until I heard that they were releasing decisions in a few days’ time.

Good luck to the two of you, at any rate!

Is it snail mail, email, or Agora?

Snail mail. They do not release decisions online.

:( 10 charr

Hahah. Uhm. I was an EA candidate until I missed the financial aid deadline. So now I’m RD. wooooh.

I applied RD; plenty of people go on that boat. It’s a little easier to be admitted RD, actually, as that is the case at any college.

XX55XX, actually, most schools are somewhat EASIER to get in EA or ED.

Wait, what financial aid deadline?

does bc have special admits for athletes?

Dear fatfrog : What does your question covering special admissions for athletes have to do with early admission in general?

The answer to your question is “yes”, there are sponsored spots in the admitted class which some specific sports/coaches can fill. Please note that admissions criteria are not “waived” in totality - the likelihood of a bottom quartile (or below bottom quartile) candidate being accepted is increased in a very limited number of cases with a coach’s sponsorship.

“Hahah. Uhm. I was an EA candidate until I missed the financial aid deadline. So now I’m RD. wooooh.”

You can still submit the financial aid application, I think. You just didn’t make the “priority deadline.” Unless you know something I don’t? In which case I’m in trouble…

Umm, perhaps more true at some highly selective colleges, such as Notre Dame and BC. OTOH, colleges that are considered safeties by HYPS wanna-bees and are farther down the food chain, fill up on early apps and can become more selective for RD. Tulane & Miami, for example.

Without getting into a whole thing here, Tulane is not less competitive than BC:

BC
Total Applications
Received: 30,845
Accepted: 8,093
Enrolled: 2,167
26.2% acceptance

Tulane
Total Applications
Received: 34,121
Accepted: 9,207
Enrolled: 1,560
26.9% acceptance

Tulane
Test Score Ranges (Mid 50%)
Test Name High Low Avg.
ACT Combined 31 28 29
SAT Combined 1420 1260 1340

BC
Test Score Ranges (Mid 50%)
Test Name High Low Avg.
ACT Combined 32 28 30
SAT Combined 1430 1250 1340

It’s not really pertinent to the Thread so I’ll leave it at that.

Also, OTOH? Am I old because I had to look up what that meant. lol.

Best of luck to y’all!! BC is a great school.

As a parent who has one child at Tulane and one at BC, I can tell you that they are WORLDS apart as far as academic rigor,

Benetode:

You missed the qualifier difference: EA vs. RD. Check back on the mid-March thread last year for all the high stat kids who were waitlisted at Tulane, including a couple accepted at Northwestern & Stanford. Even Tulane admitted that the class filled up earlier than normal. EA can a benefit at state schools too, like Carolina and Michigan, or schools with rolling schools. The point was not to compare which was more competitive overall, but to refute the earlier post that RD is “easier” at ALL colleges. It ain’t.

btw: if you are gonna roll out the stats, make sure you include top 10% and gpa. :)

does anyone know when EA letters should be coming out? The website just says by Christmas… anyone have anything more specific?

i am pretty sure that what they do is start sending out notifications the 15th, or i think that is the earliest date you will get one. so i guess it is just sometime between the 15th and 25th.
i am confused about this financial aid thing, i applied EA but I havent done anything about FA, and i havent gotten an email or anything about it.
