Class of 2014: WAITLISTED

For those of you who were waitlisted ... who is going to actually be on the waitlist, what are your stats, what do you think our chances are, etc etc.

let's rant

This sucks…so WUSTL wasn’t my top choice, but it’s a school I would’ve been very happy at. Getting waitlisted makes me even more anxious/worried about april 1 decisions b/c I can;t see some of my acceptances after this waitlist

well to make us all feel better, WUSTL has a lower acceptance rate and a higher range for scores that more in its caliber. plus, admittance highly depends upon interest

After getting deferred by UChicago and now waitlisted by Wash U…I don’t think I’m going to be accepted anywhere else. Best of luck to all those waitlisted in the rest of this cursed process.

This is just crap. WUSTL is going to deny so many people just because they have GOOD stats?? I mean seriously, I’m sure some of them genuinely wanted to be there but didn’t get in because they were labeled as a would-be Ivy type.

I’m thinking the lack of interest on my part showed through when I didn’t request an interview, though I did visit campus. All I can say is that this better be a good sign if WUSTL traditionally waitlists people who get in HYPS.

stats:
3 year high schl graduate
3.88uw gpa, 4.54 weighted
2 jobs, 31 ACT superscored
not really many ec’s, participated in a tutoring program and math team, nhs, and helped out with the softball team.
ranked 4/358 so top 2%
*did apply for financial aid, I had significant need (EFC: 1271)

pretty happy with the waitlist, but I think I’m gonna move on.
Good luck everyone else!!!

^^^same here @motion…except don’t lose hope.

agreed with tristan haha

ok so who all is accepting the waitlist?
and does it matter when we accept. Like do I have more of a chance if I accept now rather than mid-april?

i just dont get this… i dont wanna sound arrogant but wash u was a safety… and yet i got waitlisted?
i’m hoping that it’s b/c of my lack of demonstrated interest (i didnt visit or interview…) and not because my app wasnt good enough… but im still really upset

apparently washU rejects a lot of people for not showing interest so their yield doesn’t go too low. if you considered it a safety you’re probably still fine.

by reject i meant waitlist

just a logistical question. about the interviews, i thought they were supposed to contact me for off-campus interviews? but they never did…

^ what i thought too but apparently you’re supposed to call them. they love it when you show interest in them.

that’s what i hate about this school. and i never interviewed because of that misunderstanding so it probably played into my not getting accepted. :/

Im going to accept a spot on the waitlist. Im really bummed-___-

I was waitlisted, but I definitely showed a lot of interest.
I visited the school over the summer, had an interview with an Admissions Counselor, and contacted my interviewer after the interview to thank her. I applied for 4 scholarship programs (didn’t get any, obviously) and attended an extra info session in my hometown; only about 5 students were at the session, and I talked to another admissions counselor there, too.
So…maybe it wasn’t just the interest factor that got people waitlisted? They just randomly waitlisted a ton of people? lol I don’t know.

***??? why would i take the initiative to call them about something that they explicitly stated is NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY. ok now im just angry.

Woo! Kinda pumped to be wait-listed! My sis got wait-listed and got into ND! The future is bright.

Deferred from Duke, waitlisted by Wash U.
Ouch.
What are the conditions for accepting the waitlist? I don’t see why people WOULDN’T accept a possible admission spot, unless it costs something (like agreeing to attend once you’re accepted)?

But I don’t know if I’ll accept… I’m afraid most of the aid Wash U gives will have already ran out by June 30th, and my family definitely can’t afford college without FA.

just found out I was waitlisted… What exactly does it mean if I accept being on the waitlist?

S got waitlisted – ACT: 34, SAT-IIs Literature 790, Math-2 740. Top 1% of competitive high school, Visited Wash U and showed interest. It could be that Wash U is looking at yield. Yield is, I heard, one of the major factors in determining US News rankings. Wash U was his top choice but he has good scholarships from Emory and will probably go there. Does anyone have any stats about how many were waitlisted, rejected, and accepted? Wonder if you can call the college and get that info.
