<p>I'm new to the boards here, but i found out recently that I was accepted into the DAAP for Urban Planning. I was a little surprised because from what I have read, a 3.5 uw seems to be the cut-off for DAAP (I have a 3.2 uw, and a 3.9 w), and my SAT wasn't anything spectacular either (1190 CR and M). I've already confirmed my admission, and am looking forward to September of 09. I just have a few questions:</p>
<p>Which dorms are considered the best? (I know Daniels has the DAAP floors, but I'm undecided about whether or not to that's what I want to do)</p>
<p>And secondly, will the intense workload of the DAAP prevent me from going to basketball games and other sports events? </p>
<p>Thanks in advance, and GO CINCY, BEAT PITT! (my brother goes to Pitt so I'll have a nice little rivalry for the next couple years)</p>
<p>Cville91, congrats on your acceptance. Urban planning is probably one of the easier majors to get admitted to in DAAP. Don't ask me why.</p>
<p>Each dorm has its pros and cons. i strongly urge you to investigate further.</p>
<p>As for workload, I can't comment on Urban Planning freshmen courses;however, for other majors such as Industrial Design, Digitial Design and Architecture, they work the kids like dogs! However, you will certainly find enough time with good time management to attend the games. My daughter majors in Digital Design. She also was in marching band ,which requires a lot more time than simply watching the games. Nevertheless, she had a 3.7 overall GPA in her freshmen year. She did work like a dog, putting in a number of "all nighters."</p>
<p>I figured urban planning would be a little easier to get into than architecture or interior design, especially since about 95% of my peers have no idea what urban planning is.</p>
<p>My D is in Turner and loves it. Very nice suite style room. Daniels was about last on her list - it is four to a room - not suite style. Just no privacy at all and the rooms are quite small. It is a very social dorm though - so if that is something you are looking for it might fit the bill for you. Siddall and Calhoun have essentially the same type 2-person room - Calhoun is just a larger dorm (more floors). They also have the advantage of being close to one of the dining halls. IMO these are the best dorms that are not suites. The CRC dorms and Schneider are both for upperclassmen - suites and very nice. Dabney is not too great from what I hear, but I've never been in it.</p>

I applyed for Industrial Design:Product track. Gosh I do hope I get accepted! UC is the only school I applyed.</p>
<p>Cville91, my son is an architecture student, who lived in Daniels last year. He had a good experience there. The residents there were very friendly. Taxguy correctly mentioned about the quad rooming situation not being the best. However, I believe there are 2 doubles per floor in Daniels. If you apply for housing in Daniels now, it's early enough that you could end up in one of them.</p>
<p>Being a DAAP student keeps most of them very busy. However, my son and other DAAP students he knows are able to attend the football and basketball games, and other sporting events. You just have to budget your time well. </p>
<p>With its football team ranked 16th in the country, it's a great time to be a Bearcats fan.</p>
