Dude, I would so study Ancient Greek if I could!

@i200258396: Thanks :). I think my main difficulty is the tones; although I have CDs with my Chinese books (Chinese for Dummies and Mandarin Chinese in 30 Days), it’s still hard to distinguish between them.

Are there any good Chinese songs you would recommend that I can listen to and stuff, just so that I get used to hearing the tones? At the moment, I’m listening to the Olympic theme songs over and over again, lol. :)

@GuiltyBystander: Wow, so many languages! You’re lucky… out of curiosity, what does one use Latin for? Mostly classification, etc.? (say, if you were working in biology?) People say it’s great for improving your grammar.

I feel Sanskrit is the greatest language in the world even though it is spoken by only few. It is a source of many other mainstream languages as well.

I mainly use Latin for… nothing really! It does help your grammar and understanding of other languages a lot though, because you really learn how to analyze syntax etc.
It’s nice! Ancient Greek is quite fun too… Although I like Latin a lot better. But it is quite cool to be able to translate, say, Plato and the Oddysea.

Same as GuiltyBystander. I’m studying Latin since 7th Grade (optionnal since 9th) and I never really used it (though it’s useful to read some ancient writing upon ancient stuff, like the “Tempus fugit” inscription upon the clock in my living room…). But I think I will be relieved after my senior year, when I wouldn’t have to keep taking them. . . .

I studied Hindi for 10 years, but my Hindi is only good enough to have a decent conversation with or watch a movie :D
