are any of you buying / have any of you bought the harvard linens or anything in the packet they sent? idk if i’m going to but it could def make things much more convenient :/

^No way! I’m suspicious of the thread count. Plus, I think I can get a better deal on higher quality goods if I search hard enough.

For instance, when one looks at their shower package, they feature things (caddy, flip flops, toothbrush holder) I could easily get at the dollar store for a total of $5.00 at a cost of $19.95. That’s ridiculous.

I already brought some linens/sheets for next year without knowing about size difference for dorm beds. Hopefully I’ll manage to fold them in some way so that they’ll fit.

And… am I the only person who still hasn’t taken the placement exams yet? I tried recalling how to do basic derivatives and integrations this afternoon, and realized that my brain didn’t manage to retain anything from high school :/.

^I didn’t take mine either - I received a particularly threatening email from those folks this afternoon.

Oh - that’s unfortunate. Can you return them for the proper size?

^unfortunately no. Remember me mentioning before that I’ll be moving to another state? in order to avoid dragging all of my stuff there then back again, I asked my parents’ friends, whose son is a current student, to take one of my suitcases to school when they drop off their son’s luggage in the fall. So that’s kind of why I shopped early. Unfortunately, the sheets are now safely packed away and well beyond reach :(.

I got the email too. I actually took a practice AP calc exam this afternoon on sparknotes to see how much I remember and… after staring at the screen for half of hour, I got a 1. It was wonderful :/.

Here’s a list of supplies provided by the Freshman Dean’s Office:

Hopefully, people can use this to build some of their lists.

And something else that’s useful:

What size rug would one bring?

remember that one time we got into harvard?

Have not had much response to a couple of my posts-what to wear to a Harvard Club picnic?Daughter wants us to go as she is in Sweden for summer.Any ideas? Should we bring an appetizer, even though the event is free? Thanks, Annelyse

I think dress casual would be appropriate. A nice sundress, some cute - but age appropriate - shoes, etc. Don’t overdo it.

You might want to check out the Parents’ Thread, too.

Cute but age appropriate…Obviously not platforms, not flip flops, but what are not age appropriate ?I only wear Dansko sandals, but what besides Uggs did you think of? My 18 year old daughter wears MY shoes sometimes.

^I wear my mother’s shoes all the time, too. :)

Just wear something in good taste. Don’t stress about it too much.

I guess I’m more worried about the people…I didn’t attend Harvard, husband did.I am worried about meeting a lot of people who are in a club I don’t belong to.I have mostly been a stay at home mom for 25 years .It’s ending soon, and I don’t have some terrific fall- back to career, like being a speech therapist .I have a Master’s in Education, but don’t expect a job offer at 56.I am not sorry I did the mom career, only now as the nest has emptied ,I don’t have some impressive thing to shift back to…

@neonseri. you are forgeting that many years ago a 1280 would have been an ivy-league caliber SAT score. today it would fall far short.
