Hi everyone! I'm I S H I T A (Ishi for short) from UAE (Indian settled in UAE) and will be joining tamu this fall. I've picked electrical and computer engineering as my major. I just thought it would be nice to get to know more people, so introduce yourself!

Hey Ishi! I am going to be a freshman next year as well. My name is Zack Maril and I live in the suburbs of Chicago. I plan on studying Chemical Engineering with a liberal dose of math and chemistry on the side.

Wow! You really live in the UAE? How long a flight is that?

Hi, I’m Chris.

I’m also an incoming freshman. I live in the suburbs of Miami. I want to study Nuclear Engineering at TAMU. I hope to see some of you a the 21-24 August Fish Camp.

@ Zack : Yes i do live in the UAE. Its a really long flight, adds up to 24 hours approximately, with a few stops.
I’ve picked the 24/8 NSC.

@mchrisp10: Thats awesome! TAMU’s Nuclear Engineering program is really really highly ranked, even more so than the rest of their engineering programs. I have a friend who will also be studying nuclear engineering.

But anyway, I’m Matt, and I’m from Denton, TX, and I’m going to be studying Mechanical Engineering. Possibly a minor in Physics.

Wow UAE, thats a trek to get here! I’m Tyler and am also going to be in the engineering dept. I am kinda split on which field to go in to since I have a lot of interests making it a very difficult choice. Right now, I’m accepted in Nuclear Engineering, but that could change after first year to either Aerospace or Civil(coastal or geotechnical).

Wow. How often do you plan on going home?
I think I am in the last possible NSC date, whichever that one is.
Still deciding on which dates to attend for Fish camp though.

I am aiming to attend the last fish camp.

In the postcard A&M sent about fishcamp, they had the last session dates wrong. Postcard says: 21-23 August, but the real dates from the fish camp website are Session G: August 21-24.

Still deciding if I’m going to fish camp… Anyone doing honors program?

Yes, I applied for honors in McFadden/Lechner. The dorms are old, but apparently it’s the best they have on campus. I hear that many honors students stay on campus the first few years, but they move off campus as upperclassmen.

Yeah that was my plan. A friend of mine who attends A&M said that the honors dorms are also really good about having lots and lots of events to promote community and stuff. Which is cool.

Hi I’m Amanda
I will be an Environmental Design major at the School of Architecture.
Oh yes, I am an incoming freshman as well. I live in Harlingen, Texas. Which is about an eight hour drive. Kinda short compared to the rest of you guys… However, it still feels like a long way for me. lol

Hey, seems long for me. I’m 2 1/2 hours away haha… Is environmental design like… green architecture or something?

I’m just gonna attend the NSC and the International Student Orientation. Anyone an international student here?

@matt516
Well, I’m actually not 100% what Environmental Design is, but that is what I’m guessing too. haha.
I went and sat in on a presentation and it basically seemed that way. New innovative ways to build and what not.
What is your major?
and Have you decided whether or not you are going to do fish camp. I heard its a TON of fun and that we shouldn’t miss it as incoming students. I’m probably going to do session E.

I’m currently a mechanical engineering major, though that could change. I think I’m staying in engineering though. If not mechanical, possibly aerospace or civil.

I’ll probably go to fish camp if I can. I have some stuff going on this summer, dates aren’t completely hashed out yet, so we’ll see.

Aerospace and Civil seem so interesting. Uggh EVERYTHING seems like it would be so interesting and cool to learn.

@aGGieENGiNeeR
Yeah everything is interesting now.
What happens when it stops being interesting though?

@zzzmaril- I love to learn, and I don’t see the point in your post. I think I will be happy with whichever way I go. Oh yeah, once things get rough and boring I’m just going to quit. NOT.

It seems to me like there is a limit to just how far interest can take you before you are required to sit down and really work hard to learn something. For example, I am interested in the German language, but my interest for it cannot replace the pain I go through to memorize the gender of irregular nouns.

Just how far interest can take you within a field is just a question that has been on my mind lately. Nothing personal against aGGieENGiNeeR, seeing as how my only acquittance with him/her/it is through the few brief comments she/he/it has left here. I am really very sure that aGGGieENGiNeeR is a perfectly nice person who comes from a wonderful family.
