Class of 2015 Applicants Set Record, 41,734 applications

Prospective students vying for one of 4,000 slots in next year’s freshman class face the toughest competition in memory: a record 41,734 applications—up 9 percent from last year—have been submitted to Boston University’s undergraduate programs. The extraordinarily large pool of applicants is extremely well prepared and more diverse than last year’s. As a group, the applicants have a higher grade point average and SAT score averages (1,896) that are 22 points higher than last year’s. Of those hoping for admission to the class of 2015, 48 percent are in the top 10 percent of their high school class. The pool shows a 19 percent increase in applications from international students, mainly from China, Korea, and Taiwan, an 8 percent increase in the number of African American students, and a 22 percent increase in Hispanic/Latino students.

Wow. I suddenly don’t feel so confident about getting accepted anymore xD
I’m still above the average, but I guess with all that competition… wow… I’m kinda speachless xD

…good luck, guys.

I’ll definitely need all the luck I can get :(

Wow, thats intense. BU isn’t my number one, but I’m still a little nervous!

Somewhere in the past few months BU has become my #1
This sucks

oh, this seems very reassuring…

Oh man

(10 char)

Northeastern had an even larger number of applicaions: 43,876 applications for 2800 spots, up 15%. Hopefully no BU applicants were using Northeastern as a “safety”.

[Applications to Northeastern surge - The Boston Globe](http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2011/01/24/applications_to_northeastern_surge/)

I was happy to read the article about Northeastern and I hope it continues its upswing. NU was one of the schools my daughter was considering before she decided on BU. And the move to allow students to graduate in four years will undoubtedly help its yield. Unfortunately, Northeastern’s reputation as a regional commuter school is still alive and well here in the Southeast, where most people have either never heard of it or confuse it with Northwestern. Hopefully that will change in the near future.

i really wish i didn’t read this lol

ahh this stresses me out. i really want to get in!

Don’t worry. BU has an acceptance rate of 53%.

How can BU have an acceptance rate of 54 percent if there are 40,000 applicants and only 4,000 spots?

Total Applications

Received: 38,010
Accepted: 20,640
Enrolled: 4,131

Previous year info from the Common App

uh oh.
that’s not good news at all
looks like im going to need jesus and a whole lotta luck to get accpeted

@jakey54, the yield rate for BU is low, around 20%. My guess is the high cost and the fact that BU does not meet full need significantly impacts yield. And because they have a relatively high acceptance rate, many apply as a safety for acceptance, even if it is not a financial safety.

Good luck to you all!
