@thegrant
D got accepted today to UT Austin to the Dual Degree Program (B. Arch and BS Architectural Engineering). We’re from Texas and this is REALLY what she wants to do - Much relief.
My best to you all.

@KCB1234 wow!! yassss!!! thanks for the update and congrats!
All the best waiting for your decisions, everyone.
My S applied RD (or in some cases “Priority”) to:
Drexel
Penn State
Philadelphia University
Northeastern
Wentworth Institute
UMass Amherst
Roger Williams
Pratt
U Miami
Tulane
Syracuse
Accepted thus far to:
Wentworth
Penn State
Phila U
Waiting for decisions from the rest! Bonne Chance!
I was accepted to Wentworth, Virginia Tech and UMass Amherst.
I was deferred from UMiami and Northeastern.
3.7 GPA, 2070 SAT, good extracurriculars, minority.
I will probably end up going to UMass, simply because of in-state tuition. I’m not comfortable taking on mountains of debt for a low-paying degree.
Hey all,
Applied to:
Bartlett UCL (accepted)
Architectural Association (accepted)
Glasgow School of Art (accepted)
Edinburgh (accepted)
Westminster (I withdrew my app)
Cambridge (pooled, and then rejected)
Harvard for Arch Studies obviously (RD waiting)
Cornell (RD waiting)
Cooper Union (RD waiting)
SCI-Arc (RD waiting)
Rice (RD waiting)
The Bartlett has been my dream school for about 5 years now so I’m over the moon to be accepted, to say the least! It’s my top UK choice, but I’ll see how I do in the states because I love those schools (I’m British).
It’s Bartlett vs Harvard, Cooper and Cornell (if I get into those three… )
@thegrant it’s a shame that there isn’t more friction on this thread! is there a way we can get it going?
@MontyPython123 IF WE BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.
Yeah im hoping maybe more people will chime in!
@aayala96 just wondering, how was your portfolio??? Your stats seem like they would get you in to northeastern and UMiami so idk why they deferred you haha
Update. D got accepted into Cal Poly BArch. Notified by email yesterday.
I’ll update:
Accepted at Cal Poly, rejected UT Austin
@KCB1234 @silverarch very nice to both of you!!
S applied to:
So far, he was accepted by Cal Poly, RWU, Tulane, U Miami, and UMD, and deferred from Drexel, and rejected from UT Austin.
We have narrowed the decision down to: Cal Poly, RWU, and Tulane. We live on the East Coast. I like that RWU is reachable by bus/car. My S likes a warmer climate, i.e. Tulane or Cal Poly. I worry about the distraction of Tulane’s and Cal Poly’s social life. We visited RWU and Tulane and were impressed with both architecture programs. We will visit Cal Poly in April.
Any input about the differences (pros and cons) between these three schools would be appreciated.
@closetodone Cal Poly and Tulane are both excellent schools, and both offer 5 year professional degrees. I wouldn’t worry too much about social distraction at either of them, as architecture students tend to be isolated and spend much of their time is studio. Cal poly’s program is very well respected, but you have to consider what you want in a program. Cal poly is known as a technical school with graduates who are strong in problem solving and pragmatic element while weaker in design and conceptual elements. Tulane has one of the best design-build programs in the country and will be stronger in design. Tulane doesn’t have cal poly’s reputation or technical basis, though. I would also strongly consider syracuse if he gets in there.
@CloseToDone
I cannot tell you much about the other programs, but I can tell you that Tulane’s program is more involved with the local community and in seeing actual projects built in real life than most schools from what I hear. Of course initially this was because of Katrina, and to some degree it still is. But it also set a tone and a partnership with the city that is now firmly in place. Not to mention that along with the distractions of NOLA (which most students get under control pretty quickly, actually) is some amazing architecture. But then I guess you saw that for yourself already.
I am sure all the programs are very good, but NOLA is a unique experience in most alums lives. There is something to be said for that no matter the major one is pursuing.
Son just heard from WashU on Monday. All the answers are in and he’s happy!
Applied and accepted:
WUSTL
MiamiOH
Univ.of Cincinnati
Univ.of Kentucky
Kansas
Ball State
Congrats everybody!
Congratulations!!!
@kirby630 nice!!!
@Kirby630 - congratulations - really exciting options - nice place to be! .
Thanks everyone. You can probably tell he’s a midwest kid. He’s leaning toward WUSTL or Miami of OH. I think the hard part is over; it’s all downhill from here (at least for mom, LOL). Good Luck to everyone else as more answers roll in.
Got into Harvard GSD’s 6 week Career Discovery Program, which I’m absolutely thrilled about going to. (Especially as an international from the UK… big trip to the states )
also…if any of you are going to the Bartlett UCL for undergrad then here’s the new Facebook group for class of '18
