Thank you for letting us know, @mdw1207!
Just wanted to share that my D got her letter from Pace in the first week in April last year. Also, i just got back from spending a week with her in NY, and Pace was on spring break last week so maybe you will be hearing something next week.
My D is waiting for financial aid packages but I think we have finally got it narrowed. She seems to be choosing between California State Long Beach and Elon. Both great programs and both have dance science programs.
Looks like my S is trying to decide between Elon and Tulane (though if the Michigan waitlist came through that might change things, but I don’t see that happening!). He just got rejected from Northwestern We will hear later this week about Emory, but S isn’t optimistic about that one either.
@zebrarunner Elon and Tulane are both great choices! Good luck to your S in his decision making!! I am sure no matter where they end up they will be happy
Thanks @nowmomto3! Hope you got some good news from Pace for your D. S just got in to Emory as well (he was very surprised!), so we have added that to the mix. Going to visit in a couple of weeks, since we know very little about the dance program. If anyone has any info on Emory, we’d love to hear it!
D got accepted into Boston Conservatory and Tisch today and is over the moon!
@mamom1 Congratulations! Both excellent programs! Does she have a #1 choice yet?
My D received her acceptance into Boston Conservatory today! It is a happy day!
She was wait listed at NYU.
@mamom1 Congratulations on the acceptance to Boston Conservatory and Tisch!
@zebrarunner we were at Tulane last week and toured the dance department. It seemed like a terrific program. D only wants to minor, but she felt comfortable there immediately.
@jmek15 That’s great that your daughter liked Tulane Dance! Sounds like she has some good options in CAse Western and Tulane - is she considering anywhere else?
@zebrarunner, yes, she is also seriously considering University of Southern California. Though I’m sensing a little hesitation lately as she realizes that all of her top schools are so far from home!!
@zebrarunner, it is looking like she’s going to Tisch - it has been her dream school forever and she loves NYC.
@mamom1 - Tisch has a wonderful program, and NYU is a great school! Congratulations to both of you! You must be so relieved to have this whole stressful process over with. So glad it worked out so well! We are still in the deciding phase - planning to visit Emory and re-visit Elon in the next couple of weeks.
On the note of everyone sharing acceptances, thought I’d share mine. I was accepted to the dance programs at University of Arizona, SUNY Purchase, and Ryerson University (in my hometown of Toronto, Canada). I’m also male if that means anything. Those were the only dance schools I applied to, the rest were Musical Theatre. Decision time! Best of luck to everyone
After reading this thread, thought I would post…My D was accepted to The Hartt School, Georgian Court University, Stockton State(University) and Montclair State University as a DANCE MAJOR. She has not heard for Temple yet but has chosen to go to Montclair!! So happy for her!! Also happy because it is only a 2 hour drive!!!
I just found this thread and wish I had before. This dance college audition process has been fun but stressful! My D has auditioned at several places since last fall. Here is the list: She auditioned in October at PPU and at Mercyhurst Univ in PA, also last fall at UT Austin (in Texas). Then earlier this year at TCU (Texas Christian Univ) and SMU (Southern Methodist Univ) in Texas (we are from Texas), also for NYU/Tisch (her audition was in Chicago in January), sent in a dvd audition at the last minute to U of Arizona, then auditioned at Chapman University in Orange, CA, and also applied to Duke and Columbia (no auditions required). She considered applying at Oklahoma Central Univ. a month or so ago but has decided not to. Was originally going to audition for Univ of Michigan but decided against that one (didn’t want to have to make a dvd last fall).
Here are the results: She has been academically accepted everywhere, except for Duke & Columbia, most with good academic scholarships. For dance, she did NOT get acceptances at PPU (disappointed on this one as a girl from our studio dances there, and we thought this may be a good option for D – was a lot more competitive than we anticipated). She did not get into dance at TCU or SMU, both disappointing, nor at U of Arizona (but got very nice feedback there that she is a wonderful dancer, just not quite what they are looking for for their program – really appreciated the feedback). On the dance acceptance side, she has been accepted at Mercyhurst, UT Austin, Chapman, and just TODAY learned she got accepted at NYU/Tisch. Yay! I think in her heart of hearts Tisch is her dream school and #1 choice. I didn’t even realize how EXPENSIVE Tisch is until a couple of weeks ago though and have no idea how we could fund her there.
So, now, since we are down to the wire and have less than a month before May 1st (national acceptance day) to decide, what do we do? She wants a well-rounded program, with lots of dancing and technique, including ballet as well, and wants strong academics as well, wanting to double major in biology or pre-med. And of course, we have to make the finances work. I am planning to use the scholarships to press a couple of schools for more funds, but wanted to wait until all word was in.
I’d be particularly interested if anyone has comments about the programs at NYU/Tisch, Chapman, UT Austin and/or Mercyhurst Univ. I loved the campus at Mercyhurst when we visited there last Oct. It’s beautiful there, and a small private school. Freshmen are required to live on campus and can’t have a car. The dance dept. there seems good, and I loved the teachers and staff there – felt like a family. Really great! Could be a great option for D. But she really liked Chapman also (her dad took her there so I wasn’t there). Seems like a great program there. UT Austin dance program seems good as well (she has a friend who is a freshman there), and with in-state tuition, that would help us a lot. And of course, then there is Tisch. I know we are all very excited that she got accepted there. D loves NY. We aren’t thrilled about her living there (so expensive and so far), but this could be a great opportunity for her, if we can somehow finance it.
Any input from anyone else out there? We’d very much appreciate it! Congrats to all of you for your acceptances and empathy for the non-acceptances and all the best to each of you in your future endeavors!
@momof4intexas, congratulations to your daughter on her acceptances! I cannot speak to your other schools, but we are in the same boat with Tisch - crazy expensive so trying to figure out how we would finance it. My niece graduated from Tisch, and she loved the program. She is now a professional dancer in a NYC company. My D also has a couple of friends that go there, and love it. They’ve told us that the academics for dancers are not easy, but we are happy about that (the other schools D applied to are not as academically focused). D also had the opportunity to work with a couple of the instructors there through summer My D lived in NYC by herself for 3 weeks last summer and loved it - she is very comfortable in the city.
My friend’s daughter auditioned at Chapman last year but didn’t get in - she loved the school.
@mamom1. My DD got into Tisch as well. One thing to remember about cost is that it’s a 3 year and 2 summer tuition which helps a bit. My daughter was deciding between Fordham/Ailey and Tisch and decided upon Tisch. Also got into Purchase, Marymount Manhattan, Muhlenberg and Dickinson (the latter 2 liberal arts programs with strong dance). Rejected at Juilliard. Congratulations to all on your acceptances!
@momof4intexas Looks like you are looking at a wide range of dance programs. I think if your daughter wants a performance career, she should look at the the track record of the schools shes considering. For my daughter, she thought the connections she could make in NY (or LA but she preferred east coast) would far outweight other concerns. That’s why she was choosing between Marymount Manhattan, Fordham/Ailey, and Tisch and ultimately chose Tisch. Good luck!
