Class of 2015 from Nepal

No worries Bidur:) Seniors will surely help us.

@ all
tomorrows the new common apps day …remember ?? all excited to see the new form
usnews new rankings on mid aug as well for those who havent compilled their list
@ rocker
i’ll tell u what i did,…it took me 3 days though…evry single night before i went to bed,for half an hr or so i tried to reel back the happy memories of my life , among all my memos , i concluded on one which had the potential to turn out into a real gem n thus im writing on it…atleast that could happen, try it !!

@rockeroncc : regarding essay, its too a personal a thing for others to help you and you get constant opposite suggestions from people, as people have different perspectives. Many people refrain you from “Doing ones own praises” while a significant other say “this is not the time to be OVER modest”. One thing that most adcoms would say is that, “Present a side of yours which was not visible from your scores and grades”
See the essay topics in CommonApp (I think it will be launched tomorrow, august 1) and think if you can write in one of those. Ask people who know you about your weakness and strengths. This will help you during the writing process.
The most difficult task in any writing is to begin. So begin with whatever you have. This will atleast give you a base on which you can work and constantly improve. At the end the essay you submit might be totally different from you original writing.

Thanks for the suggestion guys.I will try that out.
^^10Chairs!!!

@Bidur: If you require FA, then it would be best to drop the idea of 3-2 engineering programs because: 1) you’re not always guaranteed admission into the engineering school for the last 2 years, and 2) even if you are, there’s the issue of FA–places like Caltech don’t even offer FA to international students, and then other places like Columbia are VERY stingy when it comes to offering aid to international students(very stingy as in next to impossible).
@Rocker: The best advice for you would be to just write. Doesn’t matter what you write about, just do it. You could write about anything from falling from your bed while dreaming to making paper airplanes as a kid. Chances are you may end up not even using that essay for any application but once you put down your ideas in words for the very first time, writing an essay will seem more surmountable of a task. Also, make sure someone you trust and quite good in writing essays goes through what you’ve written.

Thanks ccprofile.
Guys, tomorrow is the day. Commonapp will be unleashed. Waiting for it. From tomorrow I will start working on PE.

Guys, so where is your list making process going. This is my third time, I am again starting from scratch, starting from scratch always helps and provides new insight.

@ccprofile That means almost nobody going to Liberal Arts College will turn out as engineer after graduation, they will just be arts major. Is this true ?

Ha ha I don’t care usnews rank, what is difference it is going to make, some colleges will be up and down by just 1/2 position, and is not gonna change the game of acceptance.

@bidur : people going to liberal arts college will most probably end up with art or science degress. Few liberla arts colleges such as swarthmore, trinity also offer engineering degrees, although you would have to look up the details as they are not concentrated engineering (for eg civil or mechanical).
This is what I have heard and am not entirely sure. What matters is your graduate degree. Even with an undegrad degree of physics, you can pursue graduate studies into lots of progrmas that usually engineering majors do with very little time loss.
Although I have heard of a case of 3+2 transfer success for a Nepali, remember its just too difficult to pursue.

^^^Yeah the above post is damn true.People from LACs hardly get the B.S in engineering degree.Mostly of them will pursue Physics and get B.A degree or even B.S but in Physics(Correct me if i am wrong guys).I would probably go for a state university than LAC(almost sure) though I will be applying to LACs too.

i like the apps, seems neat n tidy !!!
guys can someone explain about the final yr repot, mid yr report n the secondary school report ?? is it different for +2ers?
why isnt there an EA form or something like that?

@prasadian : i dont think there is separate form or contract to be filled for EA. You have to selece the admission decision and submit documents by deadline.( Someone correct me If I am wrong)
As for ED, there is a separate ED contract (form) you need to send along with your application packet.

what about the reports ???

@prasadian: As I donot come from a +2 background, I have very little (almost no) idea about it.
@ all : if you donot come from a reupted school like RBS, BNKS and St.Xaviers or you come from a school that sends very little number of students to US. then I would recommend you to make your school profile. Although its the job of school to prepare it and send it with your application, students from many places have to make it on thier own. If you have friends from same school applying then you can get together and prepare one. Just make sure the same school profile goes with every applicants packet from that school. Google it (School profile). A sample can be viewed at [Sample High School Profile](Sample High School Profile – Counselors | College Board)

you do not need a school profile at all. just send your application as other students send. there’s no difference at all.

@sixstringsrocker
dude…i forgot what u told me about the reports…
final yr repot, mid yr report n the secondary school report ???

caltec, u chicago, wooster, dickinson, jacobs, northeastern
can anyone give me info about these?

Caltech and UChicago–Ridiculously difficult to get in. Describing in short and speaking in generalities, Caltech’s extremely good for sciences and engineering, whereas at Uchicago be prepared for some really intensive academics.
Jacobs-Expect ridiculous amounts of loan in your FA package. EECS and ECE are arguably its two best majors, but that is not to say that other majors aren’t good. Has a liberal arts style studies but when you have to finish a major in 3 years, I’m not really sure how much advantage you can actually take of that liberal arts approach. And, its interdisciplinary approach, while sounds really good on paper, may not be for everyone. Apply early, and while your chances of getting in may be good, do not consider it a safety; they can be quite unpredictable.
Northeastern–The problem with this college is with their aid for international students. So, please look into that before applying and even send an e-mail to an admission officer asking for details.

^^^As for the Northeastern Univ,a good friend(the same Chelsea guy listed on Acceptance of class of 2014) of mine got a full ride in it this year .He had low sat score but excellent ECAs and outstanding essay…
@ prasadian
As for the final report, midyear report and the secondary school report(as far as I know),both +2 and I.Sc students do not have to fill the midyear and the final report.Just the secondary school report(should include all the transcript) will do it unless you are applying before completing 12th grade.
