Ok me something like out of this top notch college thing… btw any guys from CC going for the Spring intake?? I have few in mind but you can recommend few unknown or unheard kinda college that gives aid in Spring if you wish to. BTW best of luck for all the test takers.

I had just heard somewhere but I was wrong (About the versions of CommonApp). As colleges are removing supplements (which I came to know from Prasadian’s Post), I think it would be wise to discuss how you should move forward with your personal essay ( as its the only essay you will be submitting).
Whether you should mention the name of college and its special features in the personal essay itself ?? (As all the colleges in one version will receive same personal essay, you will only be able to keep one college in each version if you mention its name)
Or you will not mention the name of the college you are applying and depict your interest via other means.

What you do about your personal essay is totally your own wish but I wanted people to discuss about the pros and cons of different ways of writing it.

Well I doubt if many colleges are removing the supplements. As far as I know Trinity is the only college that has removed the supplement yet. Regarding the personal essay all I can say is make it as personal as possible. Don’t hesitate to use anecdotes. All u need to do is describe some unusual/unique personal occurrence. Don’t go for topics that are clich

Thats damn true man… you kno I too was sometime so much ivy fanatic that I wrote so many personal essays and almost all of them were somewhat unusual than others write(from the seniors who read my essays) but now I aint applying to some of those I can just suggest you people- Make it as personal as you can but hey remember personal doesn’t mean how you felt after your breakup or sth else, it might work out sometime but 99/100 its not gonna work.(Correct me if m wrong)

Really spoke my heart…That’s what I was thinking for quite a while…I’m not going to create alternate versions…Yes, I’ll be sending the same PE to every colleges on my list…Morrison really shared some quick points…

I too go with morrison’s view. The personal essay should address about yourself rather than about the college. You need to tell your story not that of the college.Anecdotes will be wise thing to do.Write something about your life experience that separates you from the rest and in my view it will be the wisest of topic.Just my view hai(it may be different for others).

No essay should be about the college, not even the “why X college”(the ones in the supplements) ones. Every single essay should ultimately be about you and how you’d be a match/fit for the uni. and deserve the place more than anyone else. Yes, you may talk about the uni. or w/e, but in the end the essays should highlight YOUR qualities and attributes.
Although, I must admit that writing different personal statements for each and every uni. is impractical and completely unnecessary.

Until this point, we have not gone into special discussions about individual colleges. All the mentioning of colleges were to cite examples for discussion on different matters (like CSS/ISFAA or Liberal arts instituion etc). For the time-being, you can check the darthmouth forum. I haven’t heard of anyone from Nepal being admitted to darthmouth for class of 2014, but I am sure there are expereinced members in this forum who will be able to answer a lot questions you have. Dartmouth is an ivy as well as need-blind for international students so competition is going to be pretty tough. Wishing you best of luck for your application to Datmouth

@raujai and davidv
I do have the ACT e-book.If you need them,PM me your email ids.I will email them to u both.
And as here123 said Dartmouth is an ivy college with need blind policy for all and it is a LAC and getting their hmm…I don’t need to tell that,do I?Its an IVY so…

And guys welcome to the forum hai…Feel like home :D.

Like all ivy leagues it is hell strict about its policies…only CSS filing for financial aid allowed! :(

going with Expeliarmus information, I am updating this list of Colleges ENFORCING CSS

Mt. Holyoke
Wabash
Duke
Amherst
Kenyon??
Tufts??
Mudd??
Dartmouth

People please share your experiences regarding CSS with any of this colleges and feel free to update this list. If colleges were hell-bent on enforcing CSS for you then add them in this list, or someone has experience of getting CSS waiver from colleges listed above , mention it and remove the college from the list. CSS possess extra financial burden for most Nepali students.
