Class of 2015 from Nepal

@headache
u dont have to have ‘adventrous’ lives to write an essay on…i have read essays as simple as it can be n got into grt colz…guys have written abt a day in their lives, a job/voluntary exp, even mine is very simple n nothing quite exciting…
dont get discouraged…its ok to be tensed otherwise u’d be reckless…many seniors wrote 3-4 essays before getting what they want…n one more thing, everyone(that includes ME as well) is probably going through what u r going through…

@headache101 have a look at this…u don’t need any “adventurous” thing as such…just have confidence in yourself and don’t back off…

Accepted by Harvard

Of all the characters that I’ve “met” through books and movies, two stand out as people that I most want to emulate. They are Attacus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird and Dr. Archibald “Moonlight” Graham from Field of Dreams. They appeal to me because they embody what I strive to be. They are influential people in small towns who have a direct positive effect on those around them. I, too, plan to live in a small town after graduating from college, and that positive effect is something I must give in order to be satisfied with my life.

Both Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham are strong supporting characters in wonderful stories. They symbolize good, honesty, and wisdom. When the story of my town is written I want to symbolize those things. The base has been formed for me to live a productive, helpful life. As an Eagle Scout, I represent those things that Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham represent. In the child/adolescent world I am Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham, but soon I’ ll be entering the adult world, a world in which I’ m not yet prepared to lead.

I’ m quite sure that as teenagers Attacus Finch and Moonlight Graham often wondered what they could do to help others. They probably emulated someone who they had seen live a successful life. They saw someone like my grandfather, 40-year president of our hometown bank, enjoy a lifetime of leading, sharing, and giving. I have seen him spend his Christmas Eves taking gifts of food and joy to indigent families. Often when his bank could not justify a loan to someone in need, my grandfather made the loan from his own pocket. He is a real-life Moonlight Graham, a man who has shown me that characters like Dr. Graham and Mr. Finch do much much more than elicit tears and smiles from readers and movie watchers. Through him and others in my family I feel I have acquired the values and the burning desire to benefit others that will form the foundation for a great life. I also feel that that foundation is not enough. I do not yet have the sophistication, knowledge, and wisdom necessary to succeed as I want to in the adult world. I feel that Harvard, above all others, can guide me toward the life of greatness that will make me the Attacus Finch of my town.

ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE COMMENTS:
This essay is a great example of how to answer this question well. This applicant chose characters who demonstrated specific traits that reflect on his own personality. We believe that he is sincere about his choices because his reasons are personal (being from a small town, and so forth). He managed to tell us a good deal about himself, his values, and his goals while maintaining a strong focus throughout.

now the faces seem to emerge from the"unknown"…carry on people…everybody’s going cool…do share some gud stuffs…i’m preparing 4 SAT, and working on PE too…

not another 101… arghhh :p

i think our posts are going to be more than that of 2015 even before getting halfway through.

sorry, …that of 2014*

does anyone know of colleges which do not accept ACT?

hey thanks people!! that’s exactly what my problem is…oh well, i guess it’s time to actually have some belief lol. as many people have said around here, college acceptance is very very random so i better not be worried about all that.
@ josephite…thanks! but i had already read that essay before and i loved it mainly because i really like attacus finch’s character in ‘to kill a mockingbird’ as well!! ah well…
new topic: anyone know of colleges or sites where i can see about those colleges that give the EDII option to intl students??

@headache
i dont know abt intl specifically in ed 2 but yes u can find whether a school provides ed2 or not…its in the common apps grid paper…along with deadline, the colleges with ed2 is listed. goto common apps site download that list.

1090,

@ache…georgetown…u trying there? they are not that good for internationals…don’t provide good aid…and i think there has hardly been anyone from nepal to georgetown…oh yeah this guy from BNKS went to georgetown for economics class of 2012…got very good aid which is really rare for internationals at g.town…if you are trying there do a lot of research hai…they are really stingy in case of aid! Good Luck…

@all

Colgate-Jan15
Gettysburg-Jan15

Almost all of these are open to international students.
@Josephite
I too have seen that essay.Its well written but I didn’t like that(I don’t know why?).And Welcome!

@chandalsaitan
thanks bro…
@rockeroncc
even i didn’t like that essay lol…i posted it just to say that u don’t have to write about any extraordinary thing…all that matters is that it must be well written and should reflect you…

yeah there wasn’t something special about that essay but then again, maybe that’s why harvard took him/her…just to show that they can see a rel nice point in the essay when other minors like us can’t lol.
@rockeroncc: thanks! i has been searching for those ED II colleges but it was so hectic!!also the fact that most colleges have the same day for RD and ED II kinda bums me out :S

People, I want anyone of you to list some acceptances of Nepali students by Hamilton…I’m unaware…seniors, do post…

@chandalsaitan
i heard there were colz that do not accept ACT in lieu of SAT …
im not gud on paper works, anyone else?
@hendrix
last yr, i think 1 acceptance, he was my senior at my school-studious with extra intellects…nth more i remember of him

@chandalsaitan and prasadian
I too have heard of few colleges that don’t accept ACT in lieu of SAT but not sure(and vice versa).But I guess if you guys send an email to the adcoms and request them to accept those scores they will do that.Even if there are those colleges the number is almost uncountable.I don’t think anybody gonna have any problem with that.
@headache101
Yeah the same date for ED2 and RD kills me too.And in some colleges you can change your RD application to ED2 if you submit the binding form by somewhat like Feb 1 or something(Lafayette and Trinity allow that if I am not wrong)

I know I’m late, but it’s CHALICE, not CHALISE (the surname).
Google it, if you don’t know what that means,

Sorry about this off-topic comment. :)

I’m having a hard (HARD) time coming up with the essay :(
