Welcome hourglass…:D

Hey guyz, my GC has finished filling all my FR,MR,and other stuffs. My teachers evaluation forms are finished as well. Now all I need to do is post them to the universities. But I am confused in choosing from different postal services coz money matters…Can u guys suggest me a less expensive and reliable one???

dude, in this case money is not the biggest thing. Goto DHL. They are the best. You will get 50% discount too. (That discount applies to almost all the courier service providers)

thank GOD, my GC is planing to do everything online this time…no charges at all…

If you are planning to apply as Regular Decision Applicant (Deadlines around Jan), then you can use the Registered Mail of Postal Service (going to cost around rs 300 per packet) and they even have tracking (but only after your packet reaches US). Usually takes around 10 days. For ED applications you might want to use something more reliable. In previous discussions, I think someone mentioned abt using DHL for around 1000. When I asked last year they mentioned as 2300/packet. I found it way too expensive. If you have time then you can use Registered Mail of the Post office. I know governement service are too unreliable for most people but I am speaking from experience. A lot of people I knew used post service and I havent heard anyone’s package not reaching last year. (Although most of the people I knew, didnt use it for ED and used other service like DHL )

^

I’d recommend the same too, if you’re applying by paper.

Even if you are applying ONLINE, you will have to pay for CSS/Profile (fee payment codes might be available from some institutions) and for faxing ISCoF. Oh, and also to send extra SAT scores…

^ I heard one person’s such case. His packet was lost.
I agree with u. We can use the EMS service at GPO for so cheap. For ED, I would suggest using DHL. For RD, EMS is a very good option.
I think 2300 is before discount…At this time of year, you would get 50% off everywhere…

dude, 2300 / packet is the set price n i think its after discount…i dont know how the centre near my place charges 1. rs 1100/4-5 days courier 2. rs 1400/1-2 days courier…but its DHL …n i im gonna ed via one of them…though when davidv asked DHL centre, they said >2000 rs/4-5 days n they were reluctant to give any waive…again i suggest this for ed’er…as for rd, suggest few more channel guys…

Hey Prasadian it was not 2000 for 4-5 days they said me 4000 …haha but that was for account pay check n i dont know about others … and yes all of u guys who are EDing you can DHL from the place that prasadian is suggesting I had sent a pay check to collegeboard at 1100 and i got my tracking number and that thing safely reached the collegeboard and i was tracking each and every transit and checking of my packet online…

guys…we didn’t have GC in our +2…will a recomendation letter from rector do??? sorry if this has already been discussed before…plzz help…

When I went to DHL office, it was 2300/packet (With discount). One in baneshowr (i forget the name) charged 1200/ packet. I think skynet also takes the same price. The baneshowr one gave you a dhl tracking number after it reached delhi (so its same as sending via dhl) When I was doing the registered mail the guy over there was saying why registered, its expensive use the normal mail, everyone does that for their college. Registered was around 300/packet and normal was around 180/packet. I did registered so dont know much about normal mail but my guts say now, its not much of a difference. To sum up this whole topic :

USP : Around 3000/packet and they themselves said not to use for college applications because they are expensive

DHL/TNT/MIRAMAX : Around 2300/packet (with discount) (Prasadian knows place where they do it for around 1100/packet but the price I qouted is the price you will be charged if you go theri main office)

Skynet/ EMS : Around Rs 1200/Packet (I wouldnt recommend EMS because if you are paying the same price use something like skynet)

Registered Mail : Around Rs 300/Packet (through the post office in Sundhara. offers tracking after it reaches USA)

Normal Mail : Around Rs 150/packet (Dont know much about it)

I think the time taken for DHl and skynet will be same. Last year everywhere I went they said it will reach within 3-4 days but in most experiences I think it will take 5-7 days. Registred will take around 10 days.

@Josephite : I dont know what rector means but in the forms which GC is supposed to fill, you have a place to list your post. Most international students dont have assigned separate GC, so you can mention the post of your school official (IMO though Principle would be better)

here123…Thanks bro…(rector is our princi)…and i more thing…most of the colleges accept a normal letter of reco rite (instead of the common app format)???

@josephite : They do. Fill the rest part of the form and in the space where recommendation is supposed to be filled write “As per attached letter of recommendation” or something like that. They are usually flexible with this kind of things for international students because they know all international students donot have the resoucres like experienced GC.

Hello i just read your discussion abt sending ISFAA.

I can’t find ISFAA and COF for 2011-12. I hv emailed to school but no reply yet.
What form are you guys submitting . ISFAA 2010-11? or 11-12?
Thanks

Guys ! As a +2 student, do I have to submit all the Mid Year, Final Year and Secondary School Reports? Some say we do not need to submit the Mid Year and the Final Year Reports, while some say we need to send all of em. What actually do we need to send? It would be a great relief if you could provide me the correct information. Ive asked almost all the 14ers and the number of response varies with the number of people. HELP !!

Also, what do we need to fill in the 1st sem/trimester, 2nd sem/trimester and 3rd sem/trimester sections?

Whatever you are studying/have studied, you must submit a complete profile about your education. You need to completely fill the commonapp. You must fill all those sections.

Regarding trimester thing, u need to convert your marks into grades(or just put the marks obtained) in your first, second and third term…and final grades means ‘FINAL’. You must submit it. Without FINAL, you will be a student still in his 11th grade.

So u mean,

Secondary School Report: Grade 10 (1st tri: 1st term 2nd tri: 2nd term 3rd tri: SLC)
Mid Year Report: Grade 11 (1st tri: 1st term 2nd tri: 2nd term 3rd tri: HSEB Exam)
Final Report: Grade 12 (1st tri: 1st term 2nd tri: 2nd term 3rd tri: HSEB Exam)

???
