[ size=+2][ color=green][ b]Decision: Accepted to Olin and Engineering[ /b][ /color][ /size]

[ b]Objective:[ /b][ list]
[ *]SAT I (breakdown): 2240- 730 CR, 770 M, 740 W (Single Sitting)
[ *]ACT: did not submit
[ *]SAT II (if submitted): 790 Math II ; 740 Physics
[ *]Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): N/A (To explain it, we have a percentage based system in the Indian curriculum which is pretty rigorous, percentage was 70% in freshman thanks to change of school and a challenging curriculum which was explained positively in my recommendations, sophmore year it jumped to 95% after some effort and then in Junior Year it went down to 82% thanks to heavy EC involvement, representing country-level, and senior year again I pulled up my socks and managed to get a 92% but with really low scores in Chemistry) - Just wanted to explain this a bit more clearly for people to understand exact circumstances
[ *]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5%
[ *]AP (place score in parenthesis): Not applicable since school doesn’t offer them.
[ *]IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A ^^
[ *]Senior Year Course Load: Most rigorous
[ *]Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Second highest honors in the largest international debating competition, in the form of a team award.

[ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
[ *]Debate : Some national and a few international debating trophies. Represented country in the WSDC (World Schools Debating Championships) and won an award among 57 countries. (Definitely highlighted this as it was my main passion)
[ *]Student Council: President of Student Council/ Head Boy.
[ *]Elocution: National level Elocution - 2nd Best Elocutionist x2,
[ *]Quiz/ Scholar’s Bowl : National-level Quizzes about 4 first position team wins including one individual 2nd Best in the country in an Olympiad and a few other 2nd place finishes.
[ *]Miscellaneous Leadership : President of a few councils that I helped found, (Quite a few to describe)
[ *]Job/Work Experience (Paid): None
[ *]Volunteer/Community service: Mentoring junior kids in Math, Science and Computers, involved in a local organisation for children with special needs and this involved personal interactions with these kids every two weeks.
[ *]Essays: Hopefully good, probably nothing extraordinary but people told me they made me come across as a human and not a robot :stuck_out_tongue:
[ *]Teacher Recommendation: One was excellent and personal and the other was very good and touched upon some of the qualities that the concerned teacher saw in me.
[ *]Counselor Rec: Sort of a laundry list.
[ *]Additional Rec: A big mess up happened and in the end the Principal of my school ended up submitting a recommendation as my counselor’s reco (yes it is messed up). But sorted this out in my Mid-Year Report.
[ *]Interview: None offered since I am an International

Other
[ *]Applied for Financial Aid?: No
[ *]Intended Major: Computer Science and Economics
[ *]Country (if international applicant): UAE
[ *]School Type: Probably first to apply from my school which sends a few to Ivies (This is year is special as we sent 3 in early rounds)
[ *]Ethnicity: Indian
[ *]Gender: Male
[ *]Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Intl. award maybe?

[ /list][ b]Reflection[ /b][ list]
[ *]Strengths: I guess good SAT scores along with heavy involvement in ECs that I liked and were diverse. And maybe the good teacher recommendations as well.
[ *]Weaknesses: The ups and downs in my transcript I guess …
General Comments: Really happy that I got into both Olin and engineering. And after seeing so many people with better stats getting waitlisted or unfortunately rejected, I feel quite fortunate. To all the waitlistees, keep faith and hang in there. To all those rejected, you will get into an amazing school too so don’t lose hope (I’m not the best person to say this as I know how it feels because I felt it too when I got rejected Stanford SCEA) But honestly trust me you will get over it. Till then spend time with your friends and let’s all wish for the best. = )

[] Counselor Rec: Should also be good. She knows me very well.
[] Additional Rec: Didn’t send.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT Subjects, possibly rank?
[] Weaknesses: AP scores, lack of big awards
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/denied: My stats don’t necessarily suck for a school of this caliber, but they’re also nothing special. I have therefore entered the “crapshoot zone,” and unfortunately, this one was a miss. Also, I didn’t really demonstrate much interest.[/li][/ul]General Comments:
Not being accepted sucks, but after seeing the stats of many fellow waitlisted students, at least I can take comfort in knowing that I’m in good company. Congrats to all those accepted, good luck to the waitlisted and those rejected.
