[ *] ACT:did not take
[ *] SAT II:800 Chinese w/ Listening, 790 World History

[ *] Volunteer/Community service: Special Olympics Buddy Leader/Liason, Various NHS related projects (ex. Discover the Future leader, etc), Volunteer SAT teacher at GuangHua Chinese School '09-'10, Sebastian Therapeutic Horseback Riding '08-'09
[ *] Summer Activities:Work, Work, Work.
[ *] Essays:Pretty solid, I think my essays were honestly my strongest point, I wrote about Calvin and Hobbes and Marie Antoinette in relation to my life.
[ *] Teacher Recommendation:Three, Two excellent, one good.
[ *] Counselor Rec:Done, not sure about quality since my counselor handles way too many kids, but she does at least know me by name because I stop to chat with her often.
[ *] Additional Rec:None
[ *] Interview:Did not request, at that point I had been accepted by my first choice, so I didn’t feel the need to apply for an interview.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[ *] State (if domestic applicant):Pennsylvania
[ *] Country (if international applicant):
[ *] School Type:Large, Public, the only thing we have going for us is our great athletics programs
[ *] Ethnicity: Asian
[ *] Gender:Female
[ *] Income Bracket: 100-120k
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nope.

[/ul]Reflection
[ *] Strengths:Essay, Extracurriculars, Recommendations
[ *] Weaknesses:GPA, I got two B’s my junior year (even though they were weighted as A’s because of the AP level)
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I don’t know, I feel like my application was a balanced but mediocre offering. I was clearly interested in politics because of my extracurriculars and I had a good array of awards, mostly regional/school ones.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:Accepted EA at UChicago, Waitlisted at UNC, Accepted at Temple, waiting for UDelaware…didn’t apply to Penn State yet, but probably will just in case.

[ /list]General Comments:: Wellesley, UNC and UChicago was honestly my top three choices, with UChicago being my top choice ‘dream’ school by far. I think I would be a lot more upset if I wasn’t already accepted at Chicago and if I wasn’t already prepared for rejection by Wellesley, given its small size and incredibly competitive application base. I’m a bit upset about my waitlist, since I definitely wanted at least another top choice, but I now can choose between my safety schools and my dream school. Best wishes to those who got accepted!

[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

[ /list]**Reflection[ /b]
[ *] Strengths: hmmm…test scores (other than math whoops) really strongly involved in theatre and chorus, really good recs?
[ *] Weaknesses: grades were up and down because of personal circumstances…C+ in algebra 2 sophomore year. All math scores and grades were weak, really.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was a possibly for EE, and once I got it I immediately sent them my updated resume, a list of current activities, another letter of recommendation, and explained some challenges I’ve had to overcome in the past couple years. My guidance counselor also sent in another letter of recommendation without me knowing. I also corresponded extensively with my admissions rep (sent all that stuff to her) which I really really think is what got me in. I think I helped them see me as a real person.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: rejected from Wesleyan, in at Smith! still waited for a couple more schools but I’m 95% sure I’m going to Wellesley! first choice wheee!

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Nothing substantial, I assure you, but lots of independently-pursued writing projects.
[] Job/Work Experience: Temporary clerk at British Embassy Chancery (passport office) in D.C. I worked full-time (40 hr/wk) the summer of 2010.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Summer 2008 volunteering full-time at baby sister’s day camp as a junior counselor, various church positions, miscellaneous library work at school
[] Summer Activities: Writing, see above.
[] Essays: The Common App one was fabulous; the Wellesley ones were not, but still solid and well-written.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I assume spectacular, especially due to the close relationships I’ve formed with both of my reccers, but I didn’t get to see them.
[] Counselor Rec: He adores me, so his rec was great.
[] Additional Rec: Didn’t send in; thought it overkill.
[li] Interview: We got along well; she was nice, but I was flustered and tired so I don’t think I interviewed well.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Maryland
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Independent

[] Gender: Female. Obvs.
[] Income Bracket: $70,000
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My initiative and ambition I self-studied for four of the five AP exams I took - and my deep-seated intellectual curiosity (my French IS). I’m also very diligent and focused, and a great writer - all traits that I’m sure my recs provided lots of info on.
[] Weaknesses: I’m not much of a math student, though I can hold my own if I put lots of effort into it. I earned a D in Honors Algebra II junior year, though, and I’m not one for group activities (as evidenced by my severe lack of extracurriculars).
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Lack of community involvement, and lack of well-roundedness.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Smith, Mount Holyoke, University of Alabama, Hillsdale, Macalester, UMBC, Simmons, and Sewanee. Waitlisted: Carleton.

[/ul]General Comments: Um. I actually expected a rejection, and I think I would prefer one. I don’t like being in limbo, and if I hadn’t already fallen in deep like with Alabama and accepted its offer (plus two honors programs, Blount, and a full ride), I’d be upset because Wellesley has been my first choice since my Cambridge rejection. And I feel subpar. =</p>

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2170 (don’t remember breakdown)

[] Summer Activities: volunteering, went to France last summer for an art study abroad program, used to do volleyball camp all the time so I had minimal time. 8|
[] Essays: Common app essay was modeled after a facebook page and discussed how very little facebook pages really tell you about a person. I used myself as an example of what it doesn’t reveal about character, values, upbringing, personality, interests, etc.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read it (school policy). I imagine it was flippin sweet.

[ *] Counselor Rec: I saw it and did not like what I saw. Because counselors have to compose such a multitude of recommendations, she did my recommendation in a hurry.
[ *] Additional Rec: Because I was waitlisted and have additional chances for acceptance, one of my teachers whom I work with at school is a Wellesley alum, so she is going to write me a letter on my behalf.

[ /list]**Reflection[ /b]
[ *] Strengths: Community service and extracurriculars
[ *] Weaknesses: GPA; and I received a C in AP Calculus AB and Precal as a final grade, respectively.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I sincerely believe that I was waitlisted because of my GPA. I received a call from an admissions counselor and she requested that I send my midyear grades to the college; however, my school does not release midyear grades so the matter was left as is. I do not know as to whether this was the sole determining factor as to whether I was waitlisted or accepted.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was accepted into University of Miami, but rejected from MIT, Columbia, NYU, and Bowdoin College. I have a good feeling about Bard College because the Director of Admissions made a phone call to my counselor requesting midyear grades. She called several times before I was able to send some semester grades.

• Job/Work Experience: Have my own magazine column, Internship at BusinessWeek China, internship at a publishing company, worked as an English assistant at a learning center
• Volunteer/Community service: Sunday School teacher, Invisible Children, created and ran an event in support of gay rights
• Essays: Top rated essay from her HS by BU. It is going into a book of example essays. Her Why Wellesley was passionate. She knew W was where she wanted to be, without a doubt.
• Teacher Recommendation: Really, really amazing recs. from AP History and AP English teachers.
• Counselor Rec: Didn’t see, but he is a big supporter, so I expect it was very good.
• Additional Rec: Drama director, Majorette coach
• Interview: Went pretty well. It was a fairly recent grad, and D said that the interviewer seemed more nervous than she was herself.
Other
• State (if domestic applicant): MA
• Country (if international applicant):
• School Type: Public
• Ethnicity: C
• Gender: F
• Income Bracket: Lower
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
• Strengths: Passion, Essay, Teacher Recs, Why Wellesley, Interview
• Weaknesses: Test scores, GPA
• Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think she was accepted because she fits there. I think her passion for the school was evident not only in her Why Wellesley, but in her interview and in her arts supplement. I think she also showed them what she could bring and also what she wanted to take away.
• Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Smith (waitlisted), Mt. Holyoke (waitlisted), Brown (rejected), BC (rejected), Colby-Sawyer (accepted to honors program with a $17,000 a yr. scholarship, and also a $2000 leadership award), still waiting on a few, but sent in the deposit to W. almost immediately after the big envelope arrived.

General Comments: My D put every bit of her heart and soul into her Wellesley ap. Less so her others. She submitted an arts supplement. She applied ED and was deferred. We were in touch with the admissions office after that and updated them with her grades (all As) and accomplishments (a few awards, etc.) and other recommendations. I do believe it helped.

I don’t know how to edit my above post. I accidently left the “Job” info from the last person that filled it out. She work as a clerk at a pharmacy.
