D accepted into Willamette, Linfield and University of Portland! Nice scholarships Linfield and Willamette, don’t know UP yet. SO proud of her but she is a very last minute finisher and has two to finish and send off BY Saturday with a hectic busy week going here, then two more after that so we still have a wait. And she best get those last two done ASAP also as they are probably our financial safeties and got some bad financial news last week so will have to contact every fin aid office once we’ve done FAFSA. And then the wait for fin aid packages…guess I can’t complain about her being last minute as we’ve not done our part financial forms, however that is partly because still waiting on info we need and partly from feeling drained/tired from emotional rollercoaster at unexpected bad $ news.

Nice to read all the acceptances here–congrats to all your hard working daughters and sons!

D received 2 acceptances this past Tuesday - quite a day in our house!
Rhodes College with a $26,000 Cambridge Scholarship and a chance to compete for the full ride and a semi-finalist for the Richmond Scholars at University of Richmond.
She was also accepted to Creighton University a few weeks ago with a very generous scholarship.
Waiting to hear from a few more.

Final4x5–If you don’t mind my asking, I am assuming that your D applied to Rhodes ED, as EA decisions are not set to be mailed until 1/15 (tomorrow). If this is the case, is she not obligated to accept the admission decison at Rhodes? The ED agreement at Rhodes reads “Early Decision (ED) is the application process in which students make a commitment to a first-choice institution where, if admitted, they definitely will
enroll.” Or did she get her EA decision letter earlier than what is stated on the website? Thanks.

She applied EA, not ED, and received the news via telephone.

Accepted at Luther College yesterday - it’s been a good week!

CONGRATS EVERYONE so far i heard back from seven schools and was accepted to all of them:

Penn State University Park
Temple
Drexel
Hofstra
University of Pittsburgh
James Madison University
Rutgers

But still waiting for:
University of Maryland CP: My Top choice
Syracuse
UConn

GOODLUCK TO EVERYONE STILL WAITING

Accepted at Drew (w/ scholarship), Oglethorpe (invited to scholarship competition weekend), and New College of FL (small scholarship and very cool “Congratulations” box). Still waiting on Rhodes and Southwestern (top choices right now) as well as Juniata and Wooster.

Can you please help me on the below - How will colleges know if the choice is the first or second?

/ND doesn’t want to be anyone’s second choice, strong or no. It’s a cult of true believers. She shouldn’t feel bad about not getting into ND-- it turns away top students by the truckload. Congratulations on her tremendous success into getting into Cornell engineering!/

Also, how does one apply for merit scholarship? Is it a part of the application process - any special forms? Is it relevant only for selective colleges or for typically most of the colleges?

Thanks so much…

QUery - the way they know is if you are applying to them EA and they can see that you also applied to someone else ED.

This makes me think of another question= unless you put down schools in the what other schools are you applying to box, how does a college know which other schools you are applying to? Can they see it via Common Application or through Profile? If someone like my d applied via mail, are they still able to find out? Or maybe it is the SAT or ACT reports that list school names that were sent on the same day??? Curious minds want to know.

I’m jealous of all of you for applying early action and knowing already! We sent in the common app on 12/29. Our son has heard from Siena but it was his safety. Four more to wait for. Do we really have to wait until March or April to find out or do more schools let you know sooner? Thanks for the help. I’m brand new and excited to learn from all of you!

My daughter found out in November that she had been accepted to both Texas A&M, and Clemson University. Clemson included in their acceptance letter that they are going to waive the oos tuition, which was a requirement from us for her to go to any out of state public university. We got a letter from the Texas A&M Mechanical Engineering Dept. (after the initial acceptance letter) letting my daughter know that she has been awarded a $1000/yr. scholarship, which may not seem like a big deal, but according to Texas state law, if you qualify for any school scholarship of $1000/yr. or more, it automatically waives oos tuition. So, at least regardless of which she chooses, we will be able to pay in-state tuition, which makes a huge difference financially!

Hi my S2 was accepted at UI and Penn State - congrats to everyone.

I was accepted to Mills College in Oakland, CA!

Accepted to the University of Pittsburgh & Thiel College

Got accepted to UPitt too : ) my one and only safety! Waiting to hear back from 4 others

Pitt was my safety, too. The only reason I applied to Thiel was because my brother goes there. Maybe we will be a Pitt together.

Actually No thank you because that would imply we didn’t get into the other schools. So nevermind lol

Good Luck with the other schools!

Haha I know right Well at least their business program is good so if nothing else works I’ll have a decent place to study at while I work on transferring : ) I 've heard good things from ppl I know that go there.
Good luck to you too!

How do people fill out the Fafsa forms without having the tax information yet? I would like to do it but our emplyers have not sent the info yet. Many of the schools have 2/1 deadlines.

Yea if I end up at Pitt I would focus on transfering to. One of my best friends goes there and she likes it so at least I will have a good school to transfer from :-).

& about the FAFSA, I haven’t filled it out personally because I am in the same boat as you, mathlady, but my guidance couselor said that you can fill out an estimated form and change the data when the information becomes available. I haven’t verified that yet, but I will shortly.

My S opened his UPenn portal Dec 10@ 3:15 to discover he had been accepted to UPenn and Wharton through ED. In the history of our school he is only the 2nd kid to be accepted to an IVY and the other got in through family. In his 1st round of applications he applies to UPenn, Notre Dame, Fordham, and Worcester Poly Tech…was accepted to all of them. He got $102,000 merit aid at WPI and about $130,000 from Fordham…but he withdrew his offers before he saw the need-based aid pkgs. We never had time to see the package for Notre Dame. The initial figures for UPenn cover almost everything.

He is a NHRP scholar which I think helped. He is 3rd in his class and while his SAT scores aren’t perfect they were obviously good enough with the rest of his accomplishments and activities. He is proof that a hard working kid from the sticks can get in to an IVY. He provided info for “what are my chances” numerous times and was told that he didn’t stand a chance at any IVY…but he got in. Many of his friends chose not to apply to any selective college because they feared rejection…even many of the teachers will say that kids from our school don’t go to any good schools. I’m a teacher in his district and a lot of kids limit themselves because of where they are from. He is proof that it can be done and that no one should limit their dreams!
