GPA: 3.46 (weighted), 3.19 (unweighted)
ACT: 27
Good EC's, I'm a active member of student council, key club, and I'm the Senior class president.
I work close to 24 hours a week at a grocery store.

What can I do to make myself more marketable for Fordham?

Your GPA is a little low for Fordham (the average admitted student has a weighted GPA of 3.7). A good SAT/ACT score will help your chances a lot.

Oh, so that 3.7 average GPA IS weighted? I was always under the impression that that was an unweighted GPA. But I’m in the middle of finals week right now, so if I pair some solid 2nd semester grades with my first semester grades next fall, I should be able to get my weighted up to a 3.5-3.6 range.

I’m not so sure that it is a weighted GPA. It doesn’t say that on their website. Although this is the Class Profile from last year’s applicants and they haven’t yet updated it, it should give you an idea of where you might stand in the application pool. Keep in mind though that they will review your application holistically and so of course, there are Fordham students with stats below the profile just as there are students with stats above it.

My daughter was just admitted to Fordham Lincoln Center from the waitlist. What a wonderful surprise! I am not a high school graduate, so I had no experience in the college application process; we stumbled through together and made our fair share of mistakes. The biggest mistake we made was not applying to enough schools. In the end, she was accepted to her safety school (St. John’s in Queens), but rejected from Emerson and wait listed at Fordham. She only had a 3.2 gpa (weighted) and slim IC’s. However, she had many AP classes and she was in the IB program. From my very limited experience my advice is to apply to many schools in order to give yourself as many options as possible and be prepare because dreams really can come true! New York City!!

Thanks everyone. I’m taking the ACT Saturday and I feel like if I can bump it up to a 28-29 range, then that will help me out a lot, because on the Fordham freshman profile, it says the middle range ACT score is a 29. If I can bump my unweigthed up to 3.3-3.4 I think I stand a decent chance. Does anyone know if there is a separate application for the B-School?

momawe- That is great news about your daughter. You should be incredibly proud. My husband is a first generation college graduate so I know it takes a great deal of hard work and sacrifice both on the part of the student as well as the parents to make it happen. Congratulations to all of you! I hope she has a wonderful experience at Fordham.

doby…- There is no separate application for the B-School - you just check off a box on Fordham’s application indicating that is the school you are applying to (at least that was the case when my S applied a few years ago). Good luck.

Sorry, I’m not sure how to really post on here. But can someone please chance me for Fordham University?..

My brother is a senior at Fordham now and he is doing extremely well (Dean’s list all 4 years). I’m hoping that will help me in the long run. And also, I attended a very prestigious and selective catholic school for half of my high school career (Fordham considers it a “feeder school”). I left Junior year and went back to my public high school because I felt like I wasn’t entirely happy there, in regards to my teachers and administrators. And I recieved two consecutive concussions playing soccer, so I began to see a decline in my grades. Please let me know what you think my chances are. Fordham is my absolute #1 school. I really really want to get in, and I feel it is the perfect fit for me. Thank you!

your test scores are low for fordham but everything else looks good. i think you’ll definitely have a better chance because you have a sibling there, though the catholic high school might not count in your favor since you left. i would consider retaking your tests since your g.p.a. isn’t stellar enough to make up for them. i had around the same g.p.a. but i had a 31 on the ACT.

Unfortunately, I already had to submit my scores because I applied early action. Just waiting and praying they give me a chance now! Thanks for your help:)

Is it true that Fordham is more about the well-rounded student? I know having low sat/act scores affects their decision, but is there anyway to get around that obstacle? I mean, solely based off of the essay, recommendations, and/or extra curriculars?

They do like well-rounded students, but they will usually place more weight on GPA and test scores but if you do something especially unique or something catches their eye, who knows? I do know that they are getting more exclusive though, when I got in last year the acceptance rate was 35%. I think that it’s just luck at this point because your grades and test scores aren’t really all that bad. You might just get deferred to regular decision.

Do you know how many people typically get deferred to RA? Of course I want to be accepted through early action, but if not, I’d rather be anything other than rejected. I know a couple of my friends were accepted with significantly lower SAT scores and a lower gpa than I have, so that gives me a bit of hope.
