Going for LAS Biology
ACT: 27 (I've tried 4 times now and still can't get that 28!)
GPA: 3.95 W
Caucasian Female Chicago area
Tons of extracurriculars, Senior class VP, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta Council, etc
I've visited the campus, talked to admission councelors, MCB and IB councelors

You’re on the lower end of the middle 50% of freshman applicants admitted to LAS, but biology tends to be a bit more selective. You don’t mention your high school percentage rank, and do not mention whether you’ve taken a rigorous course load. Knowing your unweighted gpa would help also.

try [College Search - College Admissions](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■) for chances as well.

I also had a 27 on my ACT but a 4.4 weighted GPA and ranked 5th out of 200 kids in my graduating class. Had many ECs and whatnot. You should get in. I am going to be a freshman this fall in LAS Biology.

Our school does not rank. And my unweighted is probably around 3.7. I’ve taken the hardest classes available to me. All honors classes, and the AP/duel credit classes that are offered. My school has a reputation for being very difficult and only has 400 students. The only reason my GPA is a little low is because of my sophomore year, which was very difficult for me. I fell into depression.

How did you do on the math and science subscores? Remember that Illinois does not superscore, so you need to state the subscores from the highest composite ACT that you’ll submit. You should submit your application by the priority enrollment deadline, which may help increase your chances. You are most likely a slight reach to a reach, but, if you don’t apply your chances are zero. If you don’t get accepted directly into Biology, you may be offered DGS (Division of General Studies). This will allow you to take the same courses you would, if you had been admitted to Biology, but you’ll have to apply for transfer at a later point. Lastly, you may receive a deferred decision, which means you’ll need to wait until the regular enrollment period applications are considered before a final decision is made.

English 30 Math 29 Reading 23 Science 25. I’m taking it one last, fifth time in September, then that’s it. This was the test with my highest science subscore. By the by, do you think this is the one I should send in? My others are:

English 34, Math 28, Reading 23, Science 24

English 31, Math 29, Reading 27, Science 22

I’m actually taking a speed reading course right now (as time is a problem with reading and science.)

I’ve taken ACT courses twice. Neither have helped.

Are they all a 27 composite? Send all in. The 34 in English will get you credit in your RHET 105 (Composition 1) requirement. Have you taken the SAT? Some people do better on that one. ACT Science is tough for many because it is so heavily based on graphs. Please note that September results are the latest that will be scored in time for the priority enrollment deadline, and you should specify that they be sent to UIUC up front, so that no time will be wasted.

Yes, I’ve been told that about the SAT (a few weeks ago), but I figure it’s too late now. I’m unfamiliar with the testing format, etc. Thanks for all your help anyway. c:
