Fellow Boy Scout :)

I think you have a pretty solid chance. Especially because of the Greek, that could make for an outstanding app essay. And if you’re majoring in one of the humanities, especially a language, you have a big leg up.

Just to give everyone an idea as to what the adminissions looks at…everyone at my school with above a 1250 SAT was accepted, except 4 waitlists. An 86 average with a 1370 SAT was accepted.

Hi folks,
Seeing some of these posts is making me nervous :D

What do you think, have I got a shot? Applying EA for Comp Sci or Comp Eng.

3.75 weighted, 3.59 unweighted. My school doesn’t do ranks though it’s safe to say I won’t be getting valedictorian, etc.

SAT is a 1380 without writing, 2080 with writing.
SAT II in Bio, Chem, and Math 1. All in the high 600s (I forget if Bing even looks at SAT2s?)
Had AP Lang, AP US, and AP Comp Sci last year. All 4s and 5s.
This year, I’m in AP Calc AB, AP Macro, AP Micro, AP Physics B, and AP US Gov
AP World in 10th grade, score lower than 4.
Honor Society and National Merit Commended.
On the board of the school’s debate team.

In case it matters, here are some stats from my HS’s class of 2011 for Bing:
Applied: 140
Admitted: 75
Enrolled: 16

Outside of school, I have full-time employment over the summer (since 2008), which is part-time during the school year: I write software for a financial services company (I’m actually their only developer, it’s a small company, and without what I created the company literally can’t open in the morning).

On the side I do website design for a number of local businesses.
I have a federal amateur radio license and was part of the communications team for our county’s response to a recent natural disaster (which is actually my essay topic).

I can’t help but feel like my numbers fall short, and they are hurting my chances even with the extracurriculars.

Thanks!

I hope only some of you are applying EA because you are all stiff competition!!

Should add that I’m from out of state.

xts5000, you have very good stats and I don’t think you have a lot to worry about. Your EC’s are great as long as you make sure you elaborate on the software developing, etc. because it is hard to convey some of this stuff through the common app. You also have a solid gpa and your 2 part is well above the comfortable range for binghamton

wow xts5000 please dont apply EA, more competition haha

ahh! I applied to Binghamton but my stats arent as great as all of you guys

Im from NJ, I go to a really good public school (top in state) in an affluent neighborhood
