Class of 2016: EA/Regular decision discussion

do any of you guys know if georgetown ships letters first class or priority?

So, I feel like posting my story because I have been reading this thread for a few weeks and feel like contributing. :)

I am from the largest public high school in Mississippi. We have a pretty fair amount of AP classes, but I am pretty sure that all of the classes are taught below national standards. I’ve taken 7 APs total. Our 2010 and 2011 valedictorians are currently at Georgetown.

I’ve always been one of the people at my school who pushes themselves to take difficult courses, and, as a result, I exhausted our school’s AP curriculum my junior year. I figured I would give college admissions a shot, and my mom told me that I could apply to my number #1 school EA and if I got in, I could go. Unfortunately, last year, EA round I got deferred. Because of the low acceptance rate out of EA, I figured I would just be rejected, because I knew the senior valedictorian was applying RD.

Come April 1st, I ended up getting waitlisted!! While it wasn’t acceptance, it was better than rejection. Unfortunately, I didn’t turn in any of my mid-year reports, the financial aid application, or take English IV, so I couldn’t go, even if I was moved off of the wait-list.

Because I still don’t have any classes to take at my high school, I drive two hours every day to Ole Miss to take Intensive Chinese III (I didn’t have any foreign language when I applied last year, I did a really competitive summer program) and some higher level Econ classes. I am applying to SFS. I am in the top 5% of my class, have a 33 on the ACT, mid to low 700s on my SAT IIs, and I am the state champion of PF debate.

Anyways, I am as nervous as I’ve ever been. I’m so scared I will be put off, again, for the 3rd time. I wish all of you the best of luck!!

@cuddlemecozy last year it was just like the regular mail, nothing special.

I’ve been nervously stalking this thread all weekend, and I just want the mail to come! Totally expecting a deferral, but I just can’t help but hope!
I’m really nervous because I didn’t get an interview. I email and called my contact, and emailed the head alumni in my area right after I got the email from Georgetown but didn’t hear anything (this was at the beginning of October). I emailed the coordinator again at the end of the month–after calling Georgetown and asking them what to do–and he emailed me back that my interview was being waived, and that it wouldn’t hurt my application. Has anyone heard about anything like this before? It just seemed so weird to me! Even though they said it wouldn’t hurt my application, I’m still really freaked out. :/

I know I have little to no chance of getting in RD and just reading this thread has made me want to be accepted tomorrow so badly! ughhh what am I going to do until April 1st?

this is torture. my IB Extended Essay (4000 word senior thesis) is due tomorrow so I’m stuck up late tonight slaving over it and dreading/anticipating that envelope.

Maddyc123, waiving the interview will not hurt you. I was told that an interview can only help someone, and that georgetown will not penalize you if you don’t do one. I thought I wasn’t gonna do an interview because nobody was responding to me, but I was finally able to do an interview last Wednesday. Best of luck to you!

@unodosytracy: I’m in IB too! My EE was due a couple of weeks back. Good luck  What’s yours about?

The Impact of Microfinance on Development in the Least Developed Countries. It really doesn’t help that it is nearly identical to the topic I wrote on for SFS.

GoodLuck to all of You!!! I’m so excited for you guys, I applied EA two years ago and the acceptance letter brought me to tear. I ended up elsewhere, but my best wishes!

^hey cool… other IB-ers  what classes do you guys take HL/SL?
i’m in hl math, econ, history sl french, bio, english

STUPID IB. I should’ve just done something easy. :frowning: HLs: Eng, History and Econ. SLs: Phy, Hindi and Math. What’re your predicteds? I’m on a 37.

@maverick IB is totally worth it man. It may difficult but it gives us the edge. HL: bio, history, english SL: spanish, chemistry, math studies. And I think gtown knows that

Just wondering, what is ib like at your schools? It’s not at all intense at our school, and I rarely study for tests or have homework. I realize it should be harder, but I’m just not seeing it.

in the way of ib, i take hl spanish, sl french, hl english, hl european history, sl math/ap calc, and ibess sl.

and i wrote my extended essay in spanish on social identity in relation to symbolic elements in three works by luisa valenzuela (an argentine writer)

@goal It is extremely intense at
my school. The teachers take their work very seriously and I have loads of homework. On other hand, I haven’t done anything for my History class since last week and my chemistry teacher doesn’t know how to teach lol.

@rck that’s crazy. I wrote my EE on history: how Somalia, 1993, affected us foreign policy towards rwanda, 1995, and kosovo, 1999

@Fellow IB-ers: It’s pretty intense at my school. Some people take it seriously, the teachers do too. I chill lol. But, hey! I’m still doing good…i think. My EE was on how the Protestant Reformation influenced the Thirty Years War. How much of an edge to you think IB gives us? Are you guys just doing IB courses or are you doing the Diploma Program?

IB Diploma Program–If you’re just taking a few IB courses, it’s just like doing AP. I don’t think that colleges like seeing only IB courses nearly as much as seeing that you’re going for the whole thing. My EE is on An analysis of Christopher’s mental handicap and its effect on the plot in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Due today. Got 3000+ words.

I think it gives a larger edge than it actually does. Remember, IB is a 2 year college in most countries, so we got screwed taking it on a high school system. My school also forces us to take certain AP exams, such as Spanish - which no one passed. But I also take AP courses that aren’t in our IB schedule. I’m in the Diploma program

everyone post IF you get your letter today and where you live even if you get the mail and it’s not there!
