@mtrosemom is there a post that has PA at 214? I didn’t see it. sorry, but D is at 216 so sweating it out.

So, I realize that we’ve discussed C’s as far as Finalist standing goes. I have no C’s, but my grades are generally lower than I would like them to be. My school grades by the quarter, not by the semester. I have received 3 quarter A-'s in silly classes like computer tech and chemistry, and I received a B+ in an honors math class the first quarter of my junior year. Cumulative GPA is 3.98, with 6 AP and 3 Honors classes over the course of my high school career. Do you think my grades are high enough and my schedule rigorous enough to make the Finalist cut? I know everyone who makes it to SF is usually very smart and has a more difficult course load than mine. I also am a bubble kid from a state with a relatively low cutoff.

@Momof6PA check post 1176:

" I checked with my D and the other student at her school to be informed he made NMSF had a 217 PSAT in PA. "

Typo in post 1188 - should read “check post 1179”.

Typo in post 1185 - should read “PA<=217”.

@crowlady, I agree! Where are all our Homeschoolers? They were a great resource for this thread last year.

@Utilitarian, I don’t believe we saw evidence of anything other than a “C” taking a student out of the running last year, or in prior years of threads I’ve read. We don’t know anything for sure but I would not worry. If you have no disciplinary issues on your school record, have As and Bs in classes that include Honors & AP, and get your paperwork in on time (+ school does same), you should be fine IMO. Best of luck to you! Have you already been notified that you’re a NMSF?

I went on this one website that listed all the cutoffs (forgot the name but it was referenced a lot throughout CC) and it said that the commended cutoff for the class of 2016 is 202 while they didn’t know the cutoffs for semifinalists are for each state. Can anyone verify that it is indeed 202? And if it is, why didn’t I get my letter in the mail yet? Thanks.

Thanks, @GoAskDad! Yes, I received my SF notification Tuesday.

Thanks, @Skates76! If you’re right, I’ve made the cutoff. Now I’ll just have to wait for official confirmation.

Hoping that’s right @DominicBayer!!! Hope you hear soon.

@jym626, are you saying that you know the cutoff for Georgia is 218?

@4kids2graduate, my understanding is that the NMSC sends out the list of NMSFs to media outlets on the same day that the high schools are allowed to publicize their NMSFs. The colleges have access to the list on that day also. So I don’t believe colleges have the list yet (unless, if it is sent to high school principals, I guess they could get it if they really tried to). Our local ISD and news outlets never publicized the NM kids, so I did some research, calling NMSC to get info, then I sent it all to the ISD publicity director and also called him to explain how he could get access for the next year. NMSC told me that our ISD was not on their list but if the ISD provided NMSC with an email address, they would in the future send them the press releases. NMSC will not send press releases to individuals, just to media and schools.

^^I’m starting to feel like there’s not enough transparency in this process . . . Shouldn’t students and parents already have this information without having to jump through so many hoops?

I wonder if there are system wide policies that dictate when principals can notify semifinalists. Our son’s school is probably going to have 30-40, so there are a lot of parents waiting. I’m guessing the kids care less than the parents in a lot of cases, though.

Thanks @PAMom21. I’ll post when I receive official confirmation.
