Class of 2016!

@jwestbrook, when did you apply?

S2 Accepted!! College of Communications UP summer session…His status changed to “coming days” on Wednesday and Thursday it was accepted; the letter arrived in the mail today  He applied in very early September. Unweighted gpa 3.5, SAT 1890

Got my acceptance yesterday for Fall 2012! Pretty happy that I heard before Christmas.

White Male and Pennsylvania Resident

GPA: 4.0 Weighted / ~3.6 Unweighted

SAT: 1920 - 650 Reading / 670 Math / 600 Writing

10 Honors and 7 AP/CHS classes
- 3/5 on U.S. History test
- 4/5 on Chemistry test
- Haven’t/Didn’t take Calc AB, Gov’t/Politics, or European History tests

Activities: Ice Hockey, Athletic Training (3-5 days/week), Key Club

College of Engineering (Undecided)

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised since a lot of the people here have much better resumes than me. I would say it is only a matter of time for a lot who are waiting!

Accepted. Havent gotten a letter but it says online. ~3.6ish unweighted gpa, 2140 SAT’s, 31 ACT’s. All honor’s AP’s. However, i have morals so obviously not attending. Applied before the scandal

Yep, because the rest of the 40,000 students don’t have morals, none of the players on the football team, the basketball team have morals… Sooooo ignorant, oh well saves a spot for me when I get my acceptance. Stay classy, rsingh13.

Some people really are pathetic…however I’m glad that if I am lucky enough to be accepted, I won’t have to deal with the likes of you (rsingh13) if I attend.

I feel sorry for you rsingh13- Do not let this affect such an important decision in your life. You are depriving your self of a life changing experience. Being a part of Penn State during the short time I was there and ever since, has been one of the greatest experiences of my life! For those of you accepted and excited to go- Hang on- You are about to embark on the ride of your life- enjoy every moment ! I am proud to be a part of this Great Institution!- a Mom from the class of “84”. (sorry for the soap box but it is truly from my heart!)

you guys do what i want. However, i believe that the administration reflects the student body, and i don’t want to go to a school where the president and his buddies covered up a sex abuse scandal, and where the people who go there worship a man (joe paterno) who did nothing to help many young boys who were abused.

Got accepted earlier in December…it’s really my top choice and I’ll most likely end up going here but I’m waiting to here back from Syracuse. Penn State just seems like a lot more fun than SU and its a better school…only thing is I live 40 minutes from SU and 6 hours from Penn State.

@psuperson if you got into Penn State I’m sure you’ll get into Syracuse! I was also trying to choose between those schools, and as luck has it i’m about five hours from both those schools -_- However I ended up applying to Penn State and not Syracuse

sop520 - it depends on the program at SU. the comm program is extremely difficult to get accepted to at SU.

@tiger1987 and others:
Admissions directly told me 3 things:

 1. They bell curve the admissions process… meaning that the extremes hear back FIRST.
 2. Certain programs hear back before others.
 3. Essays aren’t going to be looked at unless it comes down to a waitlist.

I sent everything late november, but my file was misplaced until Dec. 4th. My online status was updated on December 15th to say “in the coming days.” I received the official acceptance letter on the 17th of December, and the 19th the website was updated. Here’s my profile:

Male. Out of state University park DUS.
3.7 Weighted GPA
620 CR 650 Math 690 Writing
6 honors and 5 AP classes

Then again, my dad works for them… so that probably helped in regards to timing.

I’d say you’re right, anybody in the middle may wait till the last couple of weeks of January unfortunately.

Anybody wanna chance me, by the way?

3.6 uw gpa
1270 (2-part), 1990 (3-part) SAT’s
Top 25% of class (out of 230)
Limited EC’s
Solid personal statement

According to the admissions chances chart (if you’ve seen it), a 3.6 gpa and 2000 sat will most likely get into their first choice of campus. I’m 10 below on the sats, so it’s pretty much on the fence or slightly above.

Meteorology major applying for Fall 2012, agreed to a summer session if necessary,

what do you all think?

jwestbrook12, I think you’re in. Definitely optional summer (worst case) and likely Fall.

jwestbrook- our SAT scores are the same on 2 section, you beat my by 30 on three (they use 3). EC isn’t a huge deal there, although I did submit an activity list/resume because the counselors forced us to make them. GPA I was 3.7 Weighted, but in one of the top public high schools in my state (VA).

I will restate what I posted earlier, that admissions openly said to my entire information session that the personal statement WILL NOT come into play unless you are wait-listed. The GPA on the infamous chart (which we’ve all probably viewed 10,000 times by now) is a WEIGHTED gpa, and they confirmed this as well.

THE GOOD STUFF: I’d say right now, even with the fact that you are applying to a very competitive program, you have a good chance for fall. Summer is even higher. All of this said, even if you don’t get in on the initial try, you can call the office of admissions and see if they can offer you admission for DUS (which they should given your stats.) since you are in gen ed classes for your first 1.5- 2 years anyway, this wouldn’t be a damaging blow to you.

Accepted to Smeal Univ Park Main Campus for Fall 2012
Massachusetts, F, Asian
GPA - 5.65 weighted SAT - 1830, 600 math 610 CR 620 Writing
All Honors, 1 AP class
EC - President of SADD Club, Co chairman of Interact Club, 3 other active clubs
ALOT of volunteer work :)

SO excited. I used to be on this site everyday reading PSU threads

becs, may I ask when you applied?

And Congratulations of course!!

PSUperson-My daughter applied to PSU and SU. She was just accepted to Whitman at SU. She still hasn’t heard back from PSU. She has decided to attend SU…they have a very good accounting program. My son graduated from PSU-Smeal in 2011, also a good business program. You will do well with either school. What is your major? We live equal distance to PSU and SU.

Hi Everyone,

Still waiting impatiently for a decision on my daughter. She applied to University Park (no second campus named) and checked agreement to summer session if necessary. Sent the application in mid-November, and have heard nothing. No status change since “Your application is complete, all of your required materials are here…A decision will be available here as soon as one is made”. It’s been that way since the end of November, and I’m not sure if that’s that’s good, bad, or meaningless.

Her stats aren’t nearly as good as most that I’ve seen listed (GPA 3.35 UW and SAT 1670 (M-460/R-560/W-650), so I’m not very optimistic. Just interested in any thoughts regarding PSU’s evaluation of a kid who is clearly not a math person, but is stronger on the verbal side. Is that taken into account, and would she still have a chance in spite of her math score?

Dadager: I applied in the beginning of september and even I havent heard anything yet. I’m also not a math person (490 on the Math Section of the SATs) and I had the same writing score on the SATs as your daughter. I’ve been really nervous about my chances of getting in regarding my SAT math score but I think that they take your GPA into account more (or so I’ve been told.)
