Class of 2016

@yayabow

Congrats dude! I have a similar GPA (junior) and will be submitting test scores. Any more info about yourself?

I basically just fell in love with this school. Had a ton of community service (founded my own organization) and a great grade trend. Also an amazing essay. Also I showed a ton of interest and a passion for the school, overnights ect. If you do all of the above you should be fine!

Waitlisted

Gpa: 3.98
SAT:1820

Community Service: 200+ hours
Extracurriculars: Indian classical dance, 2nd degree black belt, tennis captain, Marching Band and Winter Percussion, Tech for Musicals, etc

Pitzer is my first choice!! I hope I get in! I do not like waiting. :(

She should have applied to CMC for IBanking. Pomona would have the best IB connections of the group.

Stats that make parents happy:

Pitzer’s freshman retention rate: 94% 2010-11. Of course that’s no match for Yale’s 99%, Stanford’s 98%, or Berkeley & CalTech’s 97%, but it’s still excellent. Retention rates at the other 5Cs: Pomona 98%, Mudd 98%, CMC 96%, Scripps 94%. Other schools with a 94% retention rate: Barnard, Bates, Bucknell, Colgate, Grinnell, Macalester, Oberlin.

Pitzer’s 4-year graduation rate: 80%. That’s a bit misleading because Pitzer has joint 5-year BA/BS + MA/MS programs with Claremont Graduate University in econ, psych, public health, and public policy, and it also has a 7-year joint medical degree program with Western U of Health Sciences. Students in those programs are part of the 20% who don’t graduate in 4 years, but they exit with 2 degrees. 4-yr graduation rates at the other 5Cs: Pomona 91%, Claremont-McKenna 84%, Mudd 80%, Scripps 80%.

Fullbright scholars: Pitzer is tied with Smith as 2011-12 top producer of Fullbright scholars per thousand students among all US LACs and is one place behind Harvard to rank ninth overall (universities + LACs). [Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2011-12 - International - The Chronicle of Higher Education](<a href=“Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2011-12”>Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2011-12) This is the 9th consecutive year that Pitzer has been ranked no. 1 among LACs in Fullbrights. The college attributes this success to high participation in study abroad programs (72%).

Average unweighted high school GPA, 2010-11: 3.95.

Diversity improving markedly every year as Pitzer’s reputation grows and its selectivity drops into the “super selective” range of <20%.

I walked the length and breadth of the Claremont Consortium campuses today and saw a lot of happy faces. Kids clearly like to be here, and when I asked what they liked best (I chatted with random students on various campuses), they all said some variation of “the best of both worlds”: small colleges with the joint resources and course selections of a mid-size university.

Congratulations to all who’ve been admitted to Pitzer and the 5Cs, and good luck to all on the wait list!

Rejected56 - What are you going to do about it? If you simply wait chances are slim you’ll be admitted. Let them know how much you want them! Good luck!

accepted but rejected from 7 year do program, though i got an interview. kinda discouraged by that especially since i went on a pomona swim recruiting trip and then got rejected from pomona too.

sigh pitzer has dropped a lot on my top 3…the other 2 are case western and carnegie mellon. i want to become a doctor and i heard scripps has a 80% entrance to med school - since pitzer shares the science dept with pitzer…does that bode well for pitzer’s med school acceptance rate? i just hope pitzer prepares us well for medical school, y’know? i know case does for sure but idk how their social scene is…heard they’re pretty apathetic/driven compared to pitzer’s liveliness! carnegie mellon is a sweet middle but they offered me $15,000 less than pitzer.

I forgot the exact stats, but I recall med school acceptances from pitzer to be extremely high. One thing that often misleads perspective students is the notion of “how will this help me for graduate school?” Something to keep in mind is that a student from Rutgers with a 3.8 GPA and near perfect MCAT/LSAT/GRE scores has just as good if not better chance than someone from Stanford with a lower gpa and scores. Unlike when you apply to college, grad school is very numbers based. Add to that that grad school admissions look very favorably upon quality liberal arts colleges (particularly the 5Cs)because it is a very similar experience to what you will do as a grad student. I had several friends who went on to top med schools and are now doctors in different fields, Pitzer and the Joint Science Department will definitely serve you well.

@amtc
Actually I called their admission office on Friday and they called me back up on Monday and I got to talk to one of the admissions directors! He was really nice and he told me that I should wait a week or so until they finish filing all the waitlist cards and then he will know where I am on it. I also asked if there was anything I could do, like get more letters of Rec or something and he said letters of Rec won’t really help but anything for
us to learn more about you is great! And he said to just stay in contact and I shouldn’t worry!! :slight_smile:
But thank you!!

For those of you still deciding between a multitude of colleges please check out both the “The OFFICIAL Pitzer College Class of 2016 Group” and “Pitzer College Class of 2016” page. In the former, we’ve had a lot of discussion, etc., thus far. Perhaps it would help (strengthen, cement, and highlight) some reasons to commit to Pitzer.

As a committed member of the 2016 class, I know all of us would love to have those of you who got in decide to join as well.

Good going Rejected56!

Hi all - Mom of HS junior here. Congrats to all who were accepted!

It is top 3 for my son, but the Net Price Calculator is showing $10,000 more than many other schools.

Was your financial package close to expected?

Was it in-line with other schools?

best financial package received from any of my schools (including oxy, ucla, ucsd, etc.)

I am glad to be admitted. And now I am thinking whether to wait for the Reed waitlist or just Pitzer==

dreamcatchw - you know you have to commit to a college by May 1st, right? You can commit to Pitzer, send in your deposit and then lose it should you be admitted to Reed but if you don’t send a deposit in somewhere by May 1st and you don’t get into Reed (notification can come as late as August) then you’re not in any college. Just checking you understand that.

Actually, PZ had a lower admit rate than either Scripps or USC. #awkward

Pitzer top 20 for lowest acceptance rate this year.
