Class of 2017! ED Admits/Prospective students

Hey! I recently got accepted a few weeks ago for ED, and I am soooooo stoked to have been accepted at Rice. I spent a weekend there at the SOAR program, did an interview there and met so many people that broadened my view of what life at Rice was really like. The application process was intimidating and stressing. A lot of times, before submitting my app, i would look over it and see so many things I could improve on until I finally just wanted to get over it and hit the submit button. I waited for December 15 with the idea I would be at least deferred, but to my surprise, I was accepted!:D

Which goes on to the point of this thread: ED admits are free to meet here and share their experiences at Rice, along with any comments about how the application process was for them.
Also, what do you plan on majoring in?
How was the application process for you?
Residential college preference?
Passions?
Favorite thing about Rice?
What made you pick Rice as your first choice?

For prospective students, here is where you can seek advice, mainly for surmounting the stress and anxiety that comes with submitting your app and waiting for decisions.

CLASS OF 2017!

I’m a RD applicant, so still waiting. However, I was wondering if you or any other ED admits could answer a question for me. One of my biggest fears right now is being accepted to Rice and then not being offered enough financial aid/merit scholarships to afford attending. For those ED admits who applied for financial aid, has Rice offered enough for you to afford attending the school? I know Rice is big on promoting how they meet 100% of financial need, but I’ve heard a few stories about kids who weren’t offered nearly enough to attend.

They were very generous with the financial aid for my daughter!! We were thrilled with what they offered her!

I had my needs met 100% as well, so much, that it took a great burden off my back about applying to scholarships and things of the sort.:)

I’m an ED admit, is there anything else we have to do in the next few months? Or is there basically nothing until June when we start getting college assignments and everything?

I’m reasonably sure that you need to turn in a mid-year report, but definitely you will need to send in an end-year report.

So rd applicants should find out late March?

Their website says By April 1, so us RD applicants still have a long ways to go before we know! Time to pick up a new hobby :P

The last couple years they’ve released it around a week earlier than April 1. Last year was March 23 or 22 I think.

Not that it’s guaranteed to be sooner this year as well, but I think we’re about 5 weeks out from decisions.

Hey!
I am an ED admitted student from China and I plan to major in civil engineering. What about u! Intimidated by Rice’s high quality undergraduate education, I choose Rice as my definite 1st choice. Looking forward to meeting u!!!
Please add me on Fb Isaac Ye!

Good luck to all RD applicants, I know the last month was the hardest for me! I’m excited to finally have a full class. More people to meet. Does anyone know if they’re expecting to get decisions early like last year?

We hear back on March 22.

How do you know?
